Stitches
Addendum:
Early yesterday morning, this entry was interrupted by ? ? ? I can't quite remember, nor care which item on the LFL (Long Fucking List) interrupted. Here's to taking the LFL with an LOL. Works in progress. . .
My jigsaw puzzles have given way to a sewing binge. In my compulsive drive to find connections in every offering of Life, I see sewing as another type of jigsaw puzzle; one where you have to make the pieces. I've been feeling rather brain dead when I attempt to pull my senses from the puzzling and interact with life. Robes for hubby and dresses and skirts with pockets are my main drive. I love pockets. I mostly buy/make pockets and invariably, the fabric structure required to hold the pockets is enough to make me legally decent. Don't much care whether that structure is approved by the fashion elite this season. I just need a place to carry my doodads.
Last night, after I finally got the second attempt at a deviling dress design to hold to my engineering standards, I finished a skirt which has taken me a bit less than 3 years to finish. On my mother's birthday in 2016, my FIL experienced the hip break which started his exiting health spiral. As hubs and I mobilized for the yaddahs attached to the blah, I scooped this design in progress into my psycho coping classics is my busy bag. Over the months of waiting rooms, etc., which accomplished FILs departure drama, I tinkered my way through finishing, then scrapping the original design, then lost track of the bag during the tri-city shuffle of closing out his estate after departure. Not the first busy bag I've lost. They are a tool which get me through extreme conditions. Losing one is collateral damage and nothing more.
I was gently chagrinned to find that busy bag here at the farm while I was packing the incidentals I was planning to carry back to the River Base Camp (RBC). I randomly set it aside since sewing closet was still in the Urban Homestead. I didn't really see a place for the sewing set up in the RBC. A mending kit is all I need in a base camp.

Oh I think it is great that it suddenly just turned up like that, your busy bag with the sewing in it. Ha! yes it is the pocket that is important indeed, way beyond the fashion statement. It sounds like you use sewing the way I use my crocheting. I'd love to see pictures of your sewing projects if you ever get the inclination to post a few.
I have always wanted to be a sew, but the skill has definitely eluded me. I think its just two intricate and dexterity driven for me. My hand and wrist take the load when crocheting, but when I try to sew it is all finger dexterity and its sorely lacking lol. But that is okay cause I have the love of my yarn to console me.
triple hugs of creativity for you
And it is quite a skill set, too. Even remembering is a serious challenge. I don't see self-taught as an option for acquiring that skill set.
Between the "Store Bought" craze of my mother's generation (40's through 60's) and the feminine defiance of my generation, my sewing skills just might make me more freakish than my child prostitute training. Today's prime time TV might have more explicit prostitute training aids than were available in the 60's. That prime time porno pant says quite allot, in itself.
But it sure rocks having skirts and dresses with pockets. For the rare times they bother with pockets at all, the chick department seems to specialize loser pockets where everything you put into them falls out. Yea, I can see no pockets or pockets just big enough for a single condom for the rape suits which are their own level of sexual harassment, Who wants to look like a bumpy fuck? ? ? But the vast majority of dress and skirt designs have lots and lots of room for pockets.
