still wondering
My leg went numb and my hip gave out today sending me down with a boom. Needless to say after the ablation yesterday it didn't feel good at all. I'm still trying to figure out if the procedure was worth it. But before I count it out I really have to give it the time it needs to heal. My husband gave me my birthday present early today to cheer me up. It was a digital picture frame and a kindle. He said they were something to help me when I went to the hospital for my surgery. The picture frame was for me to load special pictures on it to help me maintain focus while in the hospital as the surgery and hospital stay will be two hours from home and I will have to be there for about three days. Being so far from home and not having my family around me will depress me a lot but having a picture frame that will do a slideshow of my family pics will be a great help. The kindle is so that I will have something to read if I feel like it. My main focus is going to be doing what I have to do so that I can go home. I am still putting together a list of things to take with me to the hospital and even though the surgery is still a few months off (could be up to six or seven) I want to be prepared. I ordered a couple of books from amazon before I got the kindle about wls and they should be here tomorrow. But there were also a couple of other books I wanted to get as well that I will put on the kindle that seems to be full of tips to get through the vast array of feelings that a person goes through and how to get through those tough first months. I know that I can only prepare myself so far for what is about to happen to me but I figure the more prepared I am for what may happen the better I will be able to handle it. My counselor and I are making notes of things that can happen before and after the surgery and are dealing with all the before as it happens and making a plan of attack for the afters if they happen. I did find out that the psychiatric exam can be skipped in our area if the surgeon feels that the patient is well informed and ready for the big step of surgery. I was actually able to talk to a lady with my insurance at the seminar that was able to skip the psychiatric exam because of how informed and ready she was. She basically did the same thing I have been doing which is research, amass a support group and set things in place with health care team members for the whole procedure. Will have to get through the next step first of attending the seminar which will be tuesday. Then have the meeting with the surgeon around two weeks later. For me I am a list person so I have been busy making lists of all sorts where this is concerned. A list of questions to ask at the seminar, a list of things I need to get for the surgery and hospital stay, a list of things that I will more than likely need for after the surgery, and a list of things I need to do to prepare for the surgery. I am really looking forward to the future and knowing that I will finally have a tool that will help me achieve what I have tried to achieve for years.
