Still Waiting

Here we are at the end of the promised delivery schedule for the chicken condo puzzle package and. . . Checking again to see if my cell phone is still working. . . Verifying info again. . . Time's awasting, foks. There's eggs to be laid and bugs to be pecked. GS's chicks have pretty much outgrown Raptors cage and have begun showing up in weird places, like the undercarriage of the bee truck. No roosting on the wheel struts, dears. If I am translating correctly, they want me to check my cell phone again to be certain both the phone and my hearing are still working. Is it here yet? They are bantams, which is chickenese for, "miniature," but any one of them is twice the size of the adult kestrel I bought the cage for. The three of them together in that small cage is ridiculosly cramped, but . . . Making due with what we have. . . Is it here yet?

The honey barn project has officially been handed over to the users of the system. I just the rennovator. My last official act was to make and hand over a list of suggestions for the next (final?) wave of electrical work. Hubs and his assistant are reviewing the list as preparation for the consultation with the electrical contractor this coming Tuesday. I am looking forward to introducing hubs to the electrician. At last. A little known detail of electrical work is that electricians often find wild bees in the electrical boxes. The head honcho of the company started feeling guilty for all the bees he has killed over the course of his career and started moving them to his yard rather than killing them. He could use some help. He has been wonderfully polite over the course of the work his company has done for us, but it hasn't been hard to tell he has been disappointed each time Hubs has not been there for the bee brain picking session. He was never called to beekeeping. He was *just* trying to be humane and. . . Well. . . He is an enterprising fellow and has already taken note that wild/feral bee colony removal is a potential cash cow that nobody seems to be milking. Not even my Honey Dude likes bees in his attic and moving bee colonies is not good geezer work. It requires considerable physical agility.

The rainy weather has not made it any easier to find productive activity to distract me from the fissured energy of waiting.

Tap, tap, grumble, grouse. . . Where are my turbo speeds? Don't you guys know this is the 21st century? How dare you make me wait?

They say that bees in general are dieing off. One suggestion is that large mono farming operations are causing it. They say bees like small farms with a variety of plants. Dunno. Buzzzz

Yo. . . Choir Boy. . . You're preaching to the preacher. . .

And you call yourself a Fan Boy? ? ? If you were, you would already know I amnae of the They who say bees like small farms with a variety of plants. Hubby's city bees are out performing his city bees by a fairly wide margin. Have you looked at urban plant diversity lately? Turn off your talking heads and do some local research on how many of your neighbors are more environmentally conscientious than an agricultural industrialist can afford to bee.

Dunno. . . Buzzzzzz. . .

In case you are interested in doing some of that local research, may I recommend a potential candidate? Fringe tourists such as myself travel from around the world to get their hands dirty here.

Arfie,

Ahhh, you are so lucky to have chickens and bees. I always wanted chickens and briefly had a pet one in the middle of town.
Several years ago, one got inadvertantly brought from a farm when a family moved in. It was a hen, she used to come to my door and I would feed her. Everybody thought I was nuts when I told them I had a pet chicken. Winter came and I dont know what happened to her.
I think someone must have gotten her and taken her to the country -I'd like to think this anyway. But, since then, Ive always wanted chickens ! Ive always wandered about bees....do beekeepers still get stung?

The farm handy who is still being teased about building a Man Cave in the gelding pen of my Tinker's Den reported some incredible news. He says that the biggest white owl he has ever seen landed on the rafters of the barn for a brief visit yesterday. I still grieve for the owls of at leas 3 still unidentified breeds who abandoned the barns here when I started the site survey back in 2016. :-( Come back. . . Can't we all just get along? :'( I promise I don't have a shotgun.

One of those owls was a big white owl. Dare I hope it is a returnee? ? ?

Oh boy, I hope the white owl is the one that was there when you got there artie, can you imagine, returning in time to watch chicken puzzle arrive. (eventually, hopefully) triple hugs~

What little I know about owls has made me think most of the owls who were offended by my invasion have been watching the entire project. This farm sits on the future city edge of a major Boomplex. The ecosystem isnae getting any friendlier to birds of prey, unless you count the metaphorical chicks in designer labels. Meow! ! ! There is no shame in mixing metaphors with designer females.

Of the owls who were using the barns as roosts, that lone, big white owl was easily the boldest with me. Is that a sign of intelligence?

I hate the waiting games, so you have my empathy my friend. There’s nothing worse than having a need to be filled but waiting for other parties to get their collective asses moving.

Honestly I swear delivery services are getting worse & worse. My mother sent me two packages last month on the same day to same address by priority 3day mail and one ended up in Virginia while the other arrived on time. I’ve no idea how they managed that one but I share that frustration.

Waiting with you.

Hugs & love my friend
