Still Smiling

My 12 week check-up today went perfectly.  When I heard the baby's heart beating, my eyes welled up with tears of gratitude.  My doctor said that a strong, healthy heartbeat at 12 weeks gives me a 97% chance of carrying to full term.  Those numbers were encouraging to me, although I would prefer 100% or even 99% if it were possible. When I think of the numbers I have faced over the years, I feel very fortunate to be where I am today! A fertile couple at my age has a 15-20% chance of conceiving in a given month.   I tried to find something that would tell me how much male factor infertility (our issue is abnormal sperm morphology & thick viscosity) changes these odds, but I couldn't find anything.  All I know is that my surgeon said that one endometrioma cut my chances of conceiving in half, so that means I had maybe a 5-10% chance of conceiving each month when I became pregnant with my first child.  We faced a 90-95% chance of FAILURE every month for more than five years, but finally...she appeared.  Then, after my surgery, being on clomid, & having an IUI, my chances were probably 26%.  We had a 74% chance of FAILURE with our first IUI after surgery, but miraculously...she appeared.  And then, we most likely faced an 85% chance (or more) of failure in the first month of trying to conceive when we conceived our third child.  "All pregnancies have a 20% chance of miscarriage. This generally occurs during the first trimester...After you make it to week 3, you have a 10% chance of miscarriage that drops to 5% after week 6. Once you hit the second trimester, your chances of miscarriage drop to 3%."  So here I am.  I went from an 85% chance of failure to a 97% chance of SUCCESS, and then...HE OR SHE will appear!

97% by the Dr\'s standards....100% by God\'s. This baby, like your other 2 precious babies are nothing short of God\'s way of telling you how much he loves you. I\'m honored to be a part of this journey with you again. :)

I also want to recognize that many women here face much more difficult odds than I have faced. I praise God for every miracle...& there are many!

I am so glad that everything looked good! 97% chance of carrying to term sounds great! I know 99%-100% would be better, but I know that all will go well and you will get your baby.
