Still sick and really worried...
WebMD said that pneumonia takes 2 to 3 weeks to clear up. It has been 4 days since the anti-biotics were finished, and I'm much better, but still sick. Sickness like this makes me more depressed, because I can't do much of anything.
I sold three things from Ebay yesterday, and was able to package them to go out today (on time), but the strain was pretty hard on me. My head is throbbing and I keep coughing up, which is really gross.
I can barely stand my own company, All I can think about is the decision I have to make.
I have an SSI claim in appeal. I've been working on getting "documentation" on both my physical and psychological disabilities, and it has been really hard. I am on Mainecare, and my PCP is a nurse practitioner who has no idea how to diagnose an illness. Point in case is that I went to her about the pneumonia, which appeared over the course of a week, and she decided that I had suddenly appearing asma, prescribed an inhaler and told me that smoking (which she doesn't know how much I have smoked during my life, when I smoked, how long I smoked, or when the last time I smoked was), had contributed to it.
She reluctantly gave me the antibotics I went to her to get, telling me to use the inhaler and the cough medicine she gave me for a week or so and if it didn't clear up to take the antibotics. Since I was absolutely certain that I had a resperatory infection, as my mucus had turned green (a sure sign of infection according to every other doctor I've ever seen), I started the antibotics immediately. The inhaler I did use for a few days, but every time that I did use it I had a coughing fit beyond immagination.
So, I have been suffering from this for over 3 weeks and it is not documented because my PCP couldn't identify what was wrong with me when it was painfully obvious.
But, I'm on Mainecare, and finding a new PCP takes months, and I have been waiting to see a Neurologist for 7 months, and the appointment is on Friday. According to Mainecare, if I switch PCP's, then the referral to the Neurologist is void and has to be re-inniated, meaning another 6 months or so before I can get diagnosis/treatment for the problem in my neck which is causing a variety of painful conditions throughout my neck, shoulders, back, foot, and causing (apparently) some pretty serious headaches.
Well, the lawyer called yesterday, and I have been considering leaving my home, renting an apartment back home in Southern New England, and getting my girl into a better school system. It is really important for both of us, and I've been working out details (as much as possible while I'm sick). The lawyer told me that if I don't live in the house I own I am disqualified from eligibility for SSI.
So, I basically have to decide between staying here, in mysery, hoping/working towards getting SSI, which would assure my poverty for the rest of my life, and leaving the girl in a school system which is determined to convince her (and me) that she is crazy and wrong about everything and doing nothing to promote possible success in the future, or struggling to find a job, an apartment, and a new life for the 2 of us even if it costs me everything I own.
There really is no choice. Dispite my nearly complete inability to function here, I am going to have to abandon my house to my brother, find somewhere to stay where I can look for a job and an apartment, and bite the bullet. It's definately past time to move on.
Good luck to me!
