Still in Florida!

Well, my sister is still in the hospital - 8 days now. She had complications during surgery. Her tumor grew from grapefruit size to football size in just the month it took to see the surgeon. Grrr. So they had to scrape it off several organs, inlcuidng her uriter where they had to put a stent. That was Fri, Aug 31. On Mon/Tues, she started feeling horrible and her drain was pulling urine out of her abdomen. She went back into surgery but thankfully it was a quick 15 min one and they were able to repair and replace stent. Whew. She may come home today (Fri) or maybe Sat if all goes well. We get the results from the tumor biospy today (fri) and I am praying hard that it won't be malignant. If not, she'll heal the go back in for the brain tumor in a few months. Yikes.
I'm more than a little worried about leaving her here all alone. Her incision goes from solar plexus to below belly button. She's doing well now and moving around a bit but is still on catheter and getting IV and oral pain meds. I worry if she's here alone she won't be able to get around and take care of herself. Has anyone else had or known someone who had such a large incision? How long does it take to do for yourself? I'm planning on staying for several days and maybe a week after she gets home.
Selfishly, I'm so tired. I hate to even think of myself when she's so sick but I can't block out the pain and fatigue. I've visited her every day but one, when my CP (cranky panky - from Troy - love it!) rebelled and refused to let me do anything. It's about a 35-45 min drive to and from hospital. Then I usually stay from 3-5 hours. And also have to walk a mile to get to room! I don't have my handicapp sticker here since my car is up north!
I'm so exhausted. I try hard to hide it and try very hard to ignore it as best I can, but some days I'm overwhelmed. Ugh. Wonder if others feel the same. Wait, DUH! Of course people must! How the heck do you keep DOING when you just want to lay on the floor? I used to think I was a tough one. Now I know I'm a wimp!
Going to a lovely hot bath now and a book. My sister said something so profound for me. She said she thought I was always half way into a book and half in the present. It's soo true! I AlWAYS have several books going and have 2 series that I just reread constantly. I sometimes come off as a bit flaky but it's because I'm living in another world in my books. Some of my very best friends are in books. And then there's all the wonderful nature around! Birds, trees, rocks. I bet I'm only in the 'real' world like 10%! Ha.

Where do you get your strength? God will truly bless you for being such a great and caring sister. You are being so hard on yourself because you are getting tired. If you have your handicapped paper from the DMV you can park in the handicap and put that on the car window. I have done that several times...Once I even just wrote my number on a piece of paper and posted it on the window stating I forgot my placecard...I got a not from the police saying thank you for putting the number on the note....

What you said about reading is so funny. I totally relate.. I always have my nose in a book, just got another one this morning to read while I went for my phlebotomy. While I was in the hospital I had three books downloaded that I was reading at the same time... My hematologist would make fun of me and ask how I could keep them all straight? I would read a couple chapters on one book put it down fall asleep read on another book then repeat.. Beats watching tv any day..
