Still here

I am not as good about writing journal entries as I once was.  I think it's because baseball season has started and I'm a fan.  I really can't afford to attend the games much since I have retired but there's all sort of games on TV for free at my house...and the beer is much cheaper. I also watch some of the local high school teams play . I really enjoy seeing the youngsters playing for the love of the game.  As you might have figured out, baseball is one of my favorite things. I played the game myself until I was 32. My wife must have thought that baseball addled my brain and/or memory. Every time I would leave for a practice or game while I was still an active player, she would say "You're 26-(7-8-9-30,etc) years old. You're too old for this nonsense!" (It was always nice to be reminded of my age on the way out the door. I may have forgotten since she last mentioned it!)  I sometimes would remind her that baseball preceded her in my life. She knew I played ball when she met me. After I stopped playing baseball I continued playing softball.( That's an ideal sport for old guys...shorter games, the bases are closer together and there's beer.) I also began coaching my kids teams. That was a lot of fun. Sometimes I think that I would like to coach again but my asthma will have to be better controlled. Right now I couldn't take the heat of summer on the fields and I still have trouble talking very much. Too bad. If my asthma control improves I'll do it for sure. Toward that end, my  controller med has been changed from Advair to Symbicort. About a month ago I was also changed from singulair to zyflo cr. The asthma specialist still wants me to try inhaling Lidocaine in my nebulizer to control my coughing but my insurance won't cover it. Maybe the new combination of meds will do the trick. I hope so. This coughing is getting old.  What's worse is that I sometimes black out when I have a severe coughing attack. While it has only happened about 5 times... that's 5 times too many.   Nothing much else happening. It's back to the game for me. Tom
