Still fighting the battle...

Hello Everyone,

It has been quite some time since I posted anything. Not that I haven't visited the site though. I often get on to read the other posts. Just the feeling you know you are not alone means so much. I can say I have done better. Have I totally eliminated going to the casino? No I have not. I have been through some counseling and continue to have my barriers in place. The times of feeling hopeless have decreased. The signs of hope to fight this battle have increased. My mind is so much clearer than a year ago. This is such a good feeling. Trying my best to set goals to make me feel better about life in general. I will be getting my first grandchild in a very short time. I want to enjoy this because I feel so blessed. That is another big change in my life that makes me think twice when I get the urges.

We all have felt the same pains in our lives brought on by this addiction. Honestly, it is the best therapy for me being able to communicate with people who really understand this problem. It is also so encouraging to read the posts from those who have succeeded in keeping gambling out of their lives. It feels good to get some feelings out and posting again. I will admit I felt ashamed to do so because I haven't totally succeeded. I am a work in progress.

Thanks for listening.

Expecting progress from myself instead of perfection was one of the major thought-style changes that made my life much easier. As I befriended myself and treated myself like a good friend, lovingly, with empathy life got easier. Hang in there - keep on keeping on is the key, not giving up on ourselves/recovery.
