Steps for WLS

My steps to get to weight loss surgery  Monday, February 27, 2012

1.) Attend both online and in person support groups for the surgery (this is my online group and the in person ones meet the first monday of every month, I attended the March meeting)
2)  Get all my healthcare providers on board with the surgery (this one is done my pcp is way beyond on board, the pain management doctors are on board, my nutritionist is on board and making sure to have any information on hand that I may need for before and after the surgery, the diabetes nurse is on board, my counselor is on board and although she hasn't dealt with a patient that has had this surgery she is learning all she can so that she can be of service to me before and after the surgery)
3)  Attend the seminar for the surgery (went to the seminar on the 13th of March, got first appointment and paperwork to fill out)
4) Get my face to face physical with the surgeon
5) complete six months of medically supervised weight loss program
6) Get my nutritional evaluation
7) Get my pre-surgical mental health evaluation
8) Get my documentation of patient understanding of the surgery
9) Get a detailed post-operative treatment plan
10) get a detailed long term follow up treatment plan
11) put together a hospital bag for when I have my surgery
12) get together supplies for after the surgery that will help me recover
13) continue to accumulate my support team for after the surgery (I made the announcement to close family and friends and so far they have all  been on board and accepted it and said they will help me any way they can, On 3/14 I announced to my friends on facebook that didn't know my plans and have gotten overwhelming support from them all as well, have met some people at the seminar and the live support group meetings that will be good support, even have a cousin that went through it that I didn't know had went through it.)
14) Dietary consultation with a St. Luke's Dietitian (hoping the fact that the dietitian that I am currently working with will count and if not that they are just as nice as she is)
15) Attend bariatric pre-op educational class
16) Complete pulmonary consultation
17) Complete cardiology consultation
18) Walk one mile a day
19) Do three hours of cardio/aerobic exercise a week
20) Do two hours of weight training a week
21) Do more and more research until I am blue in the face with research
22) Practice breathing and relaxation techniques
23) Get my house completely deep cleaned and ready for surgery
24) Get my yard completely done up from winter and ready for upkeep after surgery
25) Plant my garden 
26) Pay bills up and ahead for at least a month
