Starting Day 10
This is the furthest I have made it and I have had no urge to drink. To update, this is what happened to me on the 20th. My wife went to a concert with her sisters that night. I put my kids to bed and proceeded to get drunk. That night I bought a 40 ouncer and a 22. I finished the 22 first and got a little more than halfway throught the 40 when I started feeling really tired. I decided to lay down just for a second and proceeded to pass out. My wife cam home and woke me up so that I would get into bed and then she saw the empties. She was so hurt and she slept in bed with my daughters. I tried to talk to her but she was crying. This was the first time I had seen her crying about it. It really tore me up inside. The next day I had to work early. When I got home from work I saw a cold 22 ounce beer sitting on the bed next to a note that said "If this is what you like then do it. My heart is broken. Thanks." I was so freaked out and didn't know what to do so I got in the car and I drove to church. I couldn't find a mass though so my drive was fruitless in that respect. I went home and my wife was there but wouldn't talk to me. She slept in bed with me but made sure she didn't come close to me. The next morning when I went to work I stayed in the car in the parking lot and I asked God to help me. Mind you, I am a person that has always resisted the notion of a God but I knew nowhere else to turn and asked him to forgive me. I asked him to take away the urge to drink. I called my wife on the phone later that day and we talked for over an hour about things and I laid everything out to her. There were things about my drinking past that she did not know about and I made sure to leave nothing out. I promised her that I would never drink again and that I would never hurt her the way I had done. I am so thankful that she decided to give me another chance. I have not had an urge to drink since that day and I am on Day 10 as I write. I stay out of the room where I would hide out and drink and I no longer make a stop at 7-Eleven. My kids want a slurpee so bad but right now it is just best for me to avoid places that have associations with my drinking. I am feeling stronger every day though and I know there will be a day soon where I can go into the store and walk past the beer section and not even worry about it. My wife and I are also going to church together on Saturday nights. She is Catholic but she is making a sacrifice to go to a Christian church with me on Saturday nights and then Sunday mornings I am going to her church with her. I really think things are on the way up. I also got a call from Washington Mutual today and it looks like they are finally going to give us a loan modification so we can avoid forclosure. Wonderful news.
