Started the Sinemet

I started on the generic Sinemet - 25/100 yesterday.  I am also still on selegiline (which is an alternate to Azilect). I am suppose to start with one pill a day for 2 days, then add another pill for 2 more days - and so on till 3 or 4 pills a day, depending on how I feel.  Yesterday I took the pill with a banana and had no problems with nausea.  Today I tried it on an empty stomach and wont do that again.  YUCK!!  I am feeling better now that I ate something.   So far I don't notice any difference in symptoms, but didnt expect to as he said it would take awhile to work.  Was that your guys experience too?  I did have a slight headache last night and it was still hurting this morning.  But that could also be because its raining here.  My head is often a rain barrometer.
My neuro said while he recommends the full pills 3 to 4 times a day, if I wanted, I could cut the pills in half and do a half dose instead to see if less works. (He has learned I am hardheaded and have to prove things myself).  I am really considering doing the half doses.  I took the full pill yesterday and today but am thinking that i will cut the pills in half and do a half pill 4 times a day tomorrow.  I would still be doing 2 pills - but just spreading them out.  Then I would stay that way for a couple of weeks and see if I can get by with the half dosage.  If needed I can always go back to the full pills and add a third dose and forth if necessary.  Any thoughts?  It just seems if I can get away with it - less is best.  And I wont know unless I try - right?
Thank you for all your help and advice.  You gave me the courage I needed to go forward.  Now I just need to get back to exercising again.  I need that rain go away song!!!

On the generic Sinamet, I take a whole pill in the morning, because I\'ve been without all night. Then about mid-day I take a 1/2, and close to bed time, I take another 1/2. I do better with the 1/2s, but really need that whole in the a.m.
If it causes you not to sleep, I use an over the counter product called: Somnapure (natural sleep aid). It works real well for me, I take it as needed before bedtime.
I hope this helps you out. Oh, & I eat a top or bottom of a bun, toasted, w/ peanut butter on it & a 1/2 of a lg. orange or grapefruit every morning. That keeps me from feeling nauseated & it\'s a good start breakfast.

Hi CM,

I wasn\'t sure what to expect when I started taking sinemet. But i guess I started to feel calmer and less anxious. Initially I was skeptical of the \'take close to food warning\' until I accidentally tested it when we were out at a restaurant. I took it and the food took too long to get to the table. I spent the rest of the night in the carpark feeling nauseous. Now I always take it after food.
I am typing this over breakfast and as soon as I take the tablets the tremor relaxes. I don\'t care if it\'s a mind thing, a drug thing or both, as long as I can participate in the day.
After our chat I felt confident to try the madopar at night and my neck and shoulder aren\'t as bad as the were. Thank you so very much for your help.
Good luck and Keep in touch

That\'s what I take three times per day. More if I feel I need it. Which I\'ve never done. Good Luck with it. I haven\'t seen my neurologist in almost two years. I haven\'t felt the need to go see him.

Brian, do you take the whole pill 3 times or half pill?

Darls, I am glad the medopar is helping. Believe me, I know how good it feels to get some relief. Are you on any dopamine meds during the day?

I hope it keeps working for you. I am thinking about you! Hugs!

I started with azilect when first diagnosed, then after 6 months started taking 1/2 of 25/100 generic sinemet three times a day with the azilect. Have been on that dosage for two and a half years, and doing fine so far. I am trying hard not to increase it. Hoping that the exercising will help.

Although I haven\'t tried Sinemet yet (only a matter of time!) I just wanted to add my vote of support. I know it has not been an easy descision as we are both trying (too hard I think) at the less is best notion. My physio who knows how stubborn I am explained that I need the drugs in order to allow me then to maximise the exercise, this making so much sense made it all a bit easier - hope it does for you too. On the subject of exercise we need to keep each other going, if anyone fancies a signing up to do whatever they intend to do I am up for a similar committment. I need something to make me!

Take care
