Stabilizing? IV

As the countdown to winter vacation perks through the grinds of single digits, our little ship of fools feels like it has found a more stability in its course than it had before the agitation which accompanied the news that the children would spend winter vacation with their mother's family. Big Bro and Big Sis are still looking forward to the vacation, but yesterday's afternoon romp in the still not quite finished new house left no doubt they were equally looking forward to coming back at the end of winter vacation. Little Sis is, of course, just riding the waves of emotions generated by the elder sibs.

I am hesitant to feel too much relief at the thought of having the childish interruptions a 3 hour drive away for 2 weeks while we settle the new house for their return. The PTSD flashbacks from the similarities between the other grandparents and my own parents are telling me that they will be all the more unreliable if I react with personal relief. PTSD makes a mean brain-twister.

Setting that psycho snot knot aside for now, I believe we are holding steady as a whole. My strictly personals feel steady, as well. Stepping small, praying big and holding the love sacred.

Yesterday I bought a spinning barstool for the kitchen island of the new house. Not the best color match, but my decorating schemes are built on functionality far more than aesthetics. Think I'll buy the other five stools to complete the set. The children think that kitchen island is the cat's meow, even without the stools.

Addendum:
The new house isnae quite empty. The Christmas tree corner decorations have become quite elaborate. I had the older sibs pick out presents for each of the 4 members in the other grandparent household. Those presents are now under the tree, awaiting the opportunity to show them to Grama and Grampa when they come to see the new house during pick-up. Should I worry about the tour triggering the envy beast and escalating their lawsuit lotto efforts?

Nah. . . Que sera sera. Worry seldom robs tomorrow of its sorrow. It only drains today of its strength.

It's nice for me to picture the new house with the kids spinning on their barstools at the kitchen island over breakfast, arfie, so I can imagine how good it is for you to picture that.

Each of the children took their turn playing out that very fantasy on the one bar stool, Muji. Part of the reason the heavy wrought iron design appeals to me. Simplicity is much harder to break. The heavy wood block tops are flat with no backs, so they can double as end or corner tables, if desired.

I got the other five bar stools to make a set of 6. By staggering the stool heights, I can fit five of them under the kitchen island and still have room to enjoy coffee and supervise the school preparations on the sixth stool. The new house has an open design which allows me to see all three of the kid room doors from the kitchen island. I can see into the baby's room from where the dining table will be.
