Springtime at Smallville
Good morning my D.S. Friends!I apologize for the lack of updates...it's been a long winter and now it's Spring and NOW I've got more things to do outdoors than I can possibly handle! So much for life in the country.First of all, I want you all to know that following a long 6-month physical challenge, I was released from Physical Therapy in mid-March. I can do all the core strengthening exercises at home that I was doing there, so why go? PLUS my doctor prescribed (and I got) a TENS unit so that I can do my own pain management any time I need it. If you aren't familiar with how the TENS unit works, send me a message. It's too involved to go into here.Tom and I spent a wonderful week in sunny BARBADOS from March 5 - 13th. What can I say....how can sunny, 80 degrees, Trade Winds gently blowing be anything but Heaven on Earth? We totally enjoyed the trip, the people, the new friends we made and brought home about 10 lbs. of seaglass with which to make more jewelry (in our spare time ha ha!).The weather here finally seems to be settling down a bit, and with the sun and warmer temperatures, the grass has started growing. I own 7 acres and mow about 2 of that...needless to say, this time of year I can easily spend 4 hours a week just mowing the lawn! My extensive perennial beds are looking pretty well neglected right now; I wasn't able to finish mulching or do any fall dividing last year because of my back injury. Tom has promised to help me with this chore (it's more a labor of love to me) but again, there's never quite enough time to get everything done. The BIG NEWS is that last Saturday, I finally got on one of my horses again. The last time I was able to ride was Labor Day and I was so upset that I had to miss all the beautiful autumn riding weather. But this was a HUGE step for me. While I did NOT ride Memphis (he's the one I took a tumble with) I rode my beautiful black mare. She is very much the "steady eddie" as nothing upsets her. I can let her stand around for months and when I take her out to ride, it's like we just went yesterday. We rode about an hour. I wasn't sore afterward, but I know already if I plan to ride one day, I have to not overdo anything back-wise beforehand. The doctor says I will continue to improve.So....that's about all from the Homestead. We have a zillion more involoved projects on our list for this year, but are considering cost and effort before we launch any one of them.No immediate plans for travel, but we are hoping to get out for some sightseeing flights in the Cessna 182 very shortly! I absolutely love flying with Tom....he is so confident and he is a wonderful pilot! He wants to teach ME how to fly an airplane, but I'm not biting. I much prefer sitting in the co-pilot's seat and gazing out the window. Thanks to all of you for your support during my recovery period this winter. Your thoughts and prayers went a long way toward my healing.
