Special New Year
My parents' wedding anniversary was easy to remember. The old joke of the husband forgetting the date couldn't apply to Dad. The reason? They got married on New Years Day. They lived in Texas, but got married in Oklahoma. Mom was a nurse and Dad was a meat market manager for a national grocery chain. But why go to Oklahoma? Well, back when they met, the hospitals didn't allow married women to be married. Don't know why. Maybe they thought a single woman would be totally devoted to her job with no husband or family to worry about. Sooooo, they wanted to get married(Sure glad they did.) and by getting married out of state, there wouldn't be a Texas record of it. They drove to a small town just inside the Oklahoma border and were married by a justice-of-the-peace.
