Something funny happened on the way to the counselor

Pretty normal Tuesday. I went to spin class and pick up lunch for the day. Then went to my counselor's apt. For the past few days, I felt like I was coming to the end of the cycle with this counselor. Not because of her (she's great) but because I was stable again, and I didn't really know what to talk about. This pattern has happened before and I kind of expected her to do what other counselors have done...tell me I seemed perfectly fine and send me on my way. I really expected this because she's more of a "what's happening today" person, rather than a "what happened in your childhood" kind of counselor. But nope, that was not in the cards today.
Let's use the metaphor of a closet full of clothes. If you open the door, things seem relatively orderly...stuffed to the brim, with some pieces hanging out at odd angles, but overall, ok. And suddenly, you decide to start pulling things out like a madwoman and throwing them everywhere! That was my brain and my mouth this morning.
I brought up shit I haven't talked about in years. I went through about 20 major topics in an hour. I was crying and laughing...just a maniac! Anyway, after I covered all that ground I realized how much ACTUAL stuff I've been holding in...like, not just random anxiety or random depression, but ACTUAL underlying trauma that I don't know how to heal, so I've covered it up and repressed it.
Whaddya know? I'm a crazy drama-filled bitch after all! :)
Maybe, just maybe, this might be the beginning of the end of my demon they call mental illness. I've always known that I could beat this. Here's hoping that I finally figured it out.
