Someday

Dearest,
After I got back from grocery shopping today I was doing some paperwork for you when I found the stash of cards and poems I sent/gave you. I cried all afternoon. Nothing was accomplished. What was all the fussing about? Why did we waste so much time? Why did we think we would live forever? Why didn't I write you a poem everyday? What else was so important? We bumbled along through our lives as if we had forever when the time was so short it may as well have been a day. Now I'm left here alone, mostly dead, cold and lonely, watching the snow fall out the window and wishing my life was done. It is really, there's so little time left. People don't understand, they don't want to hear about my problems they're too busy bumbling along in their own misery screwing up their own lives. How do you tell people that time is so short? Why don't they listen? I feel like a may fly that only lives for one day and already the sun is setting. There just isn't enough time to waste arguing, fighting and fussing. How stupid are people anyway? How stupid were we?
You know Gregory, the marine mammal biologist, once told me. "People think dolphins are dumb because all they do is play in the ocean, eat, and have sex. Dolphins think people are dumb because they don't spend their lives that way. Did I ever tell you this? I think I agree with the dolphins. I want to tell everyone that if there's anything they want to do in their lives, go do it, NOW!! There's no time to waste.
That's not what I wanted to talk about, I wanted to talk about time. How it goes faster and faster until it's all gone before you know it. There's no one to argue with when the time is up. It's just up, that's all. No appeals. End of story.
There are no happy endings, you were right, I was wrong.
Your Ken

Ken .. your words really touched a nerve. My husband was a writer and poet. When we were younger he wrote lots of cards and poetry to and for me. In later years, not so much. And now those cards and letters would have meant so much. But who knew? I know my kids and grandkids will be asking what I want for Christmas and I already know what I want. I want each of them to write a love letter to their spouses. Go to a quiet place and pour your hearts out as to how much that person means to you. Don\'t assume they already know .. put it writing so that years from now they will be able to hold it and read it and know how much they were loved. Hopefully they will honor my request. It would be the greatest present I will receive this year now that Tim is gone. Blessings Carole

I have all the cards with the \"special notes\" inside them including the Valentine card that he purchased for me but never signed because he was gone by then. They mean everything to me. We didn\'t have enough time either......even a billion years would not have been long enough.

Ken, when love is new, we write the poems and do the little things that make life special. As time goes by we get down to living life and dealing with the childrden and life in general. We become like a pair of comfy warn slippers, our old favorites that we always use, they will always be there for us. But somwtimes thats not the case and we are left unsure and confused about what to do next. I have learned one this from this say you love someone while you have the chance, resolve a problem if it can be, and count yourself lucky that you had the time to do those things with some grace. Time is short, getting shorter each day, so make the most of it. Dosn\'t have to be anything big, just someting that you wnat to do. Blessings and hugs my friend.......Jane

Ken, I tell my family and friends every time we talk that time is short do what you want while you can. Rodger and I were fortunate enough to travel for the years we were retired and at the end we had 3 months to express our love for each other. Diane
