Some Minor Curveballs
Nothing earth-shattering or major, but sometimes things happen that make you shake your head & say, "Wait--what??"
Thing 1: about a month ago, I wrote about going out with a friend of mine, shared something (anger toward another friend I'll call B) & felt invalidated by her (she thought I was mad about something B said & I was mad more by how he said it). The other night we were out for coffee & she brings up my same point ("I don't know why B is alienating all his friends."). So the lesson here: don't take any invalidation to heart; it's gonna change anyway!
Thing 2: my poor dog has been crying a lot more lately & his legs have been extra twitchy. He does have a bad leg, but I thought maybe he had fleas. DH was certain that he did not, since the flea collar is to keep them away. Well, the other night the dog was crying so bad, I turned on some extra lights, lifted his leg & found that he was crawling with them! So yesterday I picked up some flea shampoo & gave him a nice, warm, soapy bath! He loved the warm water & the soothing shampoo & being massaged for so long! I can tell he's still itchy, but those nasties are gone!
Thing 3: last school year, they scheduled for my daughter to have 2 honors classes this year. One is Honors Algebra. Before the year even starts, the teacher bombards us with emails & 1 emails says there will be a "common core" test that the kids have to pass. My daughter later told me that they have to pass it to stay in the class. (Wait a minute: why are they scheduling kids into this class if they're not sure they should even be in there to begin with?) So yesterday, my daughter said they had to pass at least 35 questions to pass the test; she only had time to complete 31 questions, so she was very sad. I'm just ticked off. What if she can't get into a regular Algebra class during this time slot? Will she have to rearrange her entire schedule? And the poor guidance counselor--as if he didn't have enough to do! But I'm also confused; I received an email blast from the teacher saying that she sent personal emails to parents of students that she wanted to discuss the results with (which I didn't get). So what does that mean? Does she stay in the class or not? (Unfortunately, school is off on holiday today.)
Well, all is not bad. Yesterday, DH received a check in the mail close to $300 for an overpayment at the hospital 3 years ago--that was a pleasant surprise! So that will be helpful.
