Solstice Dawn
The longest night of the Northern Hemisphere has arrived. As I type, the Earth is wobbling on its axis to reverse its tilt. Tomorrow we will gain approximately 28 seconds of sunlight while the Southern Hemisphere loses the same. It is almost chilly enough to help me believe in the Texas snow being advertised in the shopping malls. Almost. By the measure of my desert conditioned senses.
I have taken to physical editing of the light/dark metaphors in my meditation readers. Here in the longest reign of man's shadowy glare, it helps console me. It does not return the comfort of Nature's mystical night lights, but it at least helps me clarify the linguistic aneurysms of what is currently being called "darkness" in our age of night blind wisdom. Perhaps by the 2013 Santa Season I will have translations for metaphysical concepts we have lost in literal glare. Serves none but myself, but that is enough.
I thank you, Dear God, for washing away
The shadows of Man's glaring lights
Please heal the children
Who see only darkness
In Your mystical lights
