Sold our rings today

Every time I opened my sock drawer these past 10 months that ring box stared at me, knowing her diamond ring and mine were in there...so this morning I took them to the pawn shop and got a pretty decent offer, way better than I thought. So I sold them and I'm gonna use the money for my daughters birthday, and took her out to dinner tonight lol. Another chapter closed. As the months tick by there are some down days still, but more up days then before. I'm back on the wagon again after slipping in late August, I drank too much to get through the holidays and that really is a temporary solution but I did it to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years, not proud of that but it's water under the bridge and being sober again I see this is the way to go. I made a great friend on line and we're tackling this together and it really seems to be working out having support when needed. If it becomes a problem again I would consider AA pretty seriously. I can't go all the way back again. These last few months were a slip for sure but I was pretty determined to see it as a crutch through the holidays. I'm signing back up at the gym tomorrow afternoon and take it from here. It's strange how time really is the key..that and as much no contact as possible..and for me anyways no liquor. It really is a depressant. Just this one week without it I can see much more clearly and focus like I was..it was August when I found out about her cheating and all the Tetris pieces fell into place...how I knew positively I had been lied to. That screwed me up bad. But I'm getting over it pretty good now, I sleep pretty good considering this past years events, and I'm starting to grieve my moms death without having my ex cloud my brain. Kind of rambling but wanted to get this down..interesting to read older journal entries and see progress, I'm encouraged for this 2015 because 2014 was pretty much a disaster.
Good night :)

Hi Kentt

That\'s a good step getting rid of the rings. Another is to get rid of photos of your ex, since it is a trigger that can bring up mixed feelings. Got to look forward, and you have come a long way my friend. As far as falling off the wagon, mate, we all slip up from time to time with things - the key is to get back on it again.

Thanks Grant...I got rid of the photos a loooong time ago lol. No Facebook for me either.. I learned the hard way a few times with checking her Fakebook crap, I really detest that site. I deactivated my account. Thanks for the encouragement my Aussie friend.

Yeah, I agree with you about Facebook - I have an account for convenience in signing on to various websites, but I do not contribute information to it and have nothing personal on there at all. Take care my friend.

Coop,
You have made a ton of progress! And you inspire me to make better choices.
I understand the ring pawning and I have considered that myself. As Grant can tell you I was distressed at losing the good ring and he helped me find it (even from the other side of the world), I won\'t wear it but am not sure about selling it. That\'s a woman thing I guess. 2014 was not a banner year for me either. May 2015 bring us all better things.
Hugs.

Congratulations on taking another step. I haven\'t managed to let go of my ring yet. Joining the gym is also a great decision. My overall mood improved greatly since joining. You\'re on the right track for a great 2015!

I am glad you are feeling somewhat better. I think getting rid of the rings was the right thing for you to do since they were tormenting you. I know what you mean about alcohol being tempting but a depressant. It\'s just a quick fix (usually not even 24 hours) and then you feel worse than before.
My prayers are with you as you continue to progress on your journey.

yea for you Coop! Keep going. I still have both of my wedding rings, I have them hidden so I\'m not tempted to look at them. My first ring I\'ll give to my daughter since it was from her dad. My 2nd one, I have no idea what do with it. It meant the world to me, a symbol of our love and our happily ever after which has been shot to hell.........but it is hidden away until I can deal with it. Keep staying positive Coop, you are helping all of us~

Take care, Coop! You are sounding like you are moving forward with confidence and faith in yourself.

FYI, I quit drinking 3 years ago with the help of an amazing forum like this one, called \"We Quit Drinking.\" Moderation is considered to be a slippery slope, which it is for anyone that has crossed the line to heavy drinking. So, the big push is to be 100% sober. It\'s anonymous, has journals and lots of topics, and everyone is very supportive and knowledgeable. I recommend it! http://wqd.netwarriors.org

Thanks rainbow I\'ll look at that.
I quit for almost 7 months cold turkey after breakup and slipped and yeah slipped hard...a beer turned into a shot into several shots and you know the rest of that story. I felt much better sober.
Thanks

You sound great!! I hope you and your daughter have a great time at dinner tonight. I have read that being physically active does wonders for mental clarity and I believe that this will give you that further push on your path to healing. Also, don\'t dwell on the slip up. It is a lesson learned. We all have been there in one form or the other. I wish you peace going forth and stay strong.

I know we are very new fiiends, but just wanted you to know I read this.

I actually commented to you on Cabi\'s last journal about \' slipping up\'.

Just want you to know .. Be kind to yourself, okay? every day is a new day to do better...... and from what little I know about you...... I think you are doing awesome.

Congrats on all these positive steps. For closing that chapter, making some money off it doesn\'t hurt :) And for getting sober again and having a new friend to help with that. I would encourage you to do AA. I go to Coda every week and I love it. I feel so much better after a meeting. Good luck with everything, sounds like you\'re on the right track.
