Oh it can last quite a while. My furry faced hubby just celebrated his \"non-navel b-day\" as they call it two months ago getting him to year nine. He will tell you he could not have gotten there without the assistance of AA and NA (alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous).
To this day he still attends meetings about three times a week. I don\'t have that particular cross to bear but I know when he doesn\'t go he is such an unhappy unsettled camper. I am so blessed those support groups exist and that he goes!
LOL But then again maybe I like all his AA and NA buds because they call me the \"normie\". ;-)
I do love listening to the open speaker meetings and think even those who don\'t use mood altering substances can learn a lot from them.
At any rate my hubby helps man the 24x7 support lines for a small area in Minnesota. They should have one for your area as well if you need to talk to someone who really \"gets\" the urge to self medicate.
Here\'s a web address to a place that should be able to help you get in contact with AA or NA in your area if you are at all interested: http://www.addictioncareoptions.com/
Or of course there\'s always the yellow pages. They are listed in there two.
I know each person has the potential to make it on their own, but why make it harder on yourself and be lonely when accomplishing it? LOL Besides if you call them or go to a meeting you can tell me what horribly weird people with extraordinary habits and lives I talked you into meeting! ;-)
Either way I\'ve got you in my prayers hoping that the next one day at a time comes without the \"extra\" medications. Keep hanging in there you can do it!
Hi Susan - Its hard to comment on your sobriety goal - as I dont know you or how drinking effects your life!!! I am a recovering alcoholic - 19 years this month. Anything I can do to help, let me know
Have a great day
