Soaking up all those milestones!
Our little girl is going to be 6 months on January 8th. I can't believe how time is flying! I can't believe how many milestones we have come across already! Over Christmas, I was talking with Ian's sister. She has three kids, 1, 3 and 6. For every birthday, she writes them a letter with all their milestones and what happened in their lives that year, seals it and tucks it away in a keepsake box for them when they turn 21. What a great idea! Then I got to thinking how bad I'm doing at marking milestones and such. I have a baby book and I haven't even written in it. Then I thought about how often I write in here and it's not that often. Another DSer (Amanda) is going to print all her journal entries and give them to her daughter when she's older. What a great idea as well! So I really need to get my butt in gear especially since she's at the age where she's doing so many different things now.
Talking: Just this morning we were laying in bed listening to her through the monitor jibber jabbering away. It was so cute. She would not stop! Ian actually thought he heard her say "I Love You." Ha, I wish! We were laughing. Since about 4 1/2 months, most of the time, she no longer wakes up crying in the mornings. She wakes up, lays there and talks forever until we come and get her. And then, when one of us walks in and she sees us, she gets so excited! She thrusts her legs up and down and bounces in a laying position and has this cute smile on her face. It's so cute!
Eating and drinking: She's also been very curious as to what we're eating and drinking in the last few weeks. Last week I was taking a drink of water from my glass and she actually grabbed it and I spilled water all over me. She's been grabbing constantly. So on Christmas Eve at my mom's I let her take a drink of water from my glass. It totally worked. She drank! I mean I thought that happens much later. So weird. Then on Christmas Day, Ian's dad, her pops, let her drink from his glass. She loves it too! I then later tried to give her a sippy cup. She wants nothing to do with that. We have not given her any solids yet. She's been strictly on breastmilk. We decided and agreed on waiting until 6 months or later before we start any solids. But I know now that she is ready. I decided on New Years day since we're having a bunch of family over, that we will test our first solid foods with her and make that milestone with family there. I think I'm going to attempt to make my own foods, starting with rice cereal. I do work full time, so we'll see how that goes. But I do have a bunch of recipes and a few of the other mom's at Ava's daycare makes their own food and it seems to work out fine for them.
Teething: We are anxiously waiting for that first tooth to cut. I know it's going to happen soon. I'd say since about 4 months, she's been extra extra drooly. She has to wear a bib daily otherwise her clothes get soaked. And EVERYTHING goes into her mouth now, I mean everything, even her toes! She loves our fingers. It's probably soothing for her. I've tried to give her all kinds of teething rings but she's not interested in any of those. I even tried the netted thing where you put an ice cube in it and let them suck on it. No she doesn't care for it.
Rolling Over: It's a no go so far. Not even any signs of it. She loves laying on her back and loves lifting her legs up and grabbing her feet and toes. I'm not complaining, but I thought for sure by now she'd be rolling over. I did have a dream the other day that I walked away from her changing table for a split second and she rolled off! OMG! So right now I am paranoid about that since I'm sure she will be able to roll over any day now.
Sitting up: She started sitting up assisted at about 5 months. She is now sitting on her own unassisted for a good 2, 3 minutes, depending on the day. Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. Just in the last few days she has learned to support herself with her hands. We pulled out the jumperoo about 4 days ago and she seems to like that a bit. She's not yet jumping too much though. However, she LOVES her exersaucer. It has so many colors and sounds and shapes. Just last week we finally sat her in there without a blanket holding her up.
One thing for sure is that her personality is really shining through. She is such a happy baby. So smiley and giggley. After a really long day at work, coming home to her really brightens my evening. As soon as she sees me she always gives me the biggest smile. It melts my heart! I just got this email from my daycare girl today: "Ava is a little Ham Sandwich today!! The smiles are ear to ear & she is full of giggles. :) Must of been some good stuff in your boob juice this a.m. Lol."

Many of my gf's who have kids have told me that 5/6 months are their favorite age because they are so interactive, but yet they aren't crawling or walking but they can sit up and support themselves. A great age that goes by so quick! I'm trying to soak up every minute of it!

Don\'t get too hard on yourself just adjusting to having a baby is hard enough. You still have time to document all you want to.

What a great job strictly bfing, you\'re doing so great. I was planning on waiting until after 6 months for food too but Anella was SO ready so we started at 5 1/2 months. Honestly making your own food is so easy (I know I am a SAHM) but I would actually make her food on the weekends. I would chose 1 veggie and 1 fruit to make (or spinach mixed with green beans & apples & pears) I would cook them and then put them in ice cube trays and that would last us the week. It was perfect and so quick and easy. I\'m sure you\'ll find it super easy too.
I agree that age was one of my favorites...actually each stage is my favorite but once they start moving it\'s a WHOLE different ball game.
