So scared
I haven't been here in forever. I'm not quite sure where to begin so I'm just going to paste what I posted in the support group I just joined....I'm not even sure it's the right group for me but not sure where else to look.
New here. I don't have a diagnosis yet but I'm not quite sure where else I fit in for support. I'll try to be short here with my story.
I'm 37. I've had heavier periods since sometime in the summer and then they got really bad a few months ago. Heavy heavy bleeding with clots....like can't leave the bathroom for hours and have to leave work bleeding...no real pain though until lately which is what makes things even more unpredictable. I can't fully explain how bad it is. Like I'll have nothing but maybe a little discharge and then a bad bleeding incident out of no where then back to nothing for two days then another bleeding incident...this might repeat itself one or more tines and then nothing for 2 to three weeks .
Started with a new doctor in January and started the usual tests to try to figure things out. I wasn't bleeding at the time but my blood counts were so low they had me go to the hospital for a transfusion. Probably not to big of a deal to most but to someone who had never been in the hospital or had an IV it was pretty scary.
Blood pressure, thyroid, sugar levels etc all came back fine. So the next step was a transvaginal ultrasound. I was told by my primary that the lining of my uterus was too thick and I'd need to have a procedure to remove it. Had to wait three weeks for a consultation. (which means I got to get sick again) . I had that appointment Wednesday. I found out that my uterus lining is 5mm thick? I'm not even sure how that compares in the grand scheme of things. I also found out I have something in my uterus that is about 5cm in size. They are not sure what it is (fibroid, polyp, blood clot) etc.
So I was giving a choice of having a biopsy in the office without sedation and then later doing whatever procedure needs to be done or being put under and having a hysteroscopy to remove whatever it is, followed by a D&C to remove the uterus lining. Whereas even regular exams are painful to me, I picked the second option...which the Dr also seemed to be leaning towards.
It's schedule for March 19th ....which again means I'll be sick again before hand...and makes me really worried my blood counts will be down again and I'll need a transfusion.
I wasn't to happy about all of this obviously but my doctor was acting really positive. She said The recovery was only a day or two and it would end my horrible periods and I would be fine. But after talking too other people I'm a wreck.
People who told me they had D&Cs said they were horrible and they were in pain for weeks afterwards and their next period sent them to the ER in an ambulance from losing so much blood. I was told that for having a lining so thick and something as big as 5cm was really big to have in my uterus was really serious and it sounded like it could be cancer.
So yeah ...I'm scared to death and convinced I probably have cancer. My mother died five years ago after fighting brain cancer for 8 years. I don't know how she did but because I don't think I could have the strength to do that. I wish she was here now though because I feel so alone. It's basically just my Dad here for me and he doesn't really get it...and a few friends that I have told but they are all so busy and don't really have time for my emotional breakdown. I'm just so scared about the procedure and the recovery and the biopsy. I can't sleep or stop crying.
I don't even really know what I'm looking for here... I know no one can tell me I'm going to be all right. Maybe just some of your own experiences or something.
