so many hurting

I went to a new dentist yesterday and she asked me if I have any children so I told her my only child passed away suddenly last year. She asked how so I told her he passed away from sudden cardiac arrest. She began to cry. I apologized if I shocked her, but I can never deny that Eddie lived.. She said she was crying because her best friend's son committed suicide at the age of 14 and the first "anniversary" is in January. I told her about DS and FMO and the other group for Families Affected by Suicide. I gave her my number and told her that her friend could call me if she wants to. She said she doesn't know what to say or do for her friend. I told her just listen, make her tea, just be with her, just love her. This child was this couple's only child. I know how that feels. We talked about faith and God and so I was there a long time, but I needed to be. I told the dentist to tell this Mom and Dad as this precious child's first Angel date approaches what my therapist told me that helped me. The worst has already happened.

I really do need to order some DS calling cards from Karen. I am amazed at how much suffering there is for moms and dads out there. I told her I would pray for her friend. She hugged me as I left the office. Sigh...

Linda, this week E...Entertainmet Network has a special on by Laura Ling on teen suicide. I watched it drowning in my own tears and thoughts of my son who was a young man when he died the same way nearly 2 yrs ago. I can hardly believe I am writing these words.....it is incredible to me that this has happened. No one knows what to say or do....you told her the right way to handle it.....the worst thing is to ignore it altogether and not be there for her friend....believe it or not....I had a friend do that....to this day she has never acknowledged my son\'s death....needless to say...we do not communicate. I am a little put off by the excuse that people just \"don\'t know what to say\".....it is a cop out....being compassionate is not a hard thing to do unless you do not have a heart. That is my response to that. I pray these parents get into grief counseling right away....one that most especially deals with suicide. God be with them......you are invaluable to all who know you....love...dale, brandon\'s mom

There are no coincidences... the sharing that happened between you was meant to be and both of you walked away carrying something very special. Becoming a heart with ears is our path and our pain begins to transform when we find ourselves in these moments. Thank you for sharing your loving and caring heart with each of us and who knows how far wide this ripple effect will flow... one can only imagine. Love to your huge and loving heart dear Linda and to your precious Eddie who is always guiding you and you are doing your part by listening. Simply beautiful! XO Joanie

Its wonderful that you could be there and help. It\'s the gift we now have, and can chose to give, the compassion that comes from having experienced the very worst thing life can throw at us. I\'m glad you were there to help your dentist help her friend. That\'s all we can do. Love to you and Eddie, as always, Linda J
