so done

I went to the meeting last night to hear the speakers on depression/suicide prevention.  They were okay.  Of course, this information was nothing new to me.  The first speaker was a psychologist (I believe) and a very confident speaker, but he didn't address what I asked him to.  He touched on masking but that was it.  So I'm glad I had a back-up, who is also a mom and had a son who had a suicide attempt a few years ago at his school.  The back-up speaker, however, was very nervous.  I felt for her because after the first speaker - what was left to talk about?  It's too bad that they didn't coordinate their presentations.  They didn't, however  She could have talked more about the stigma and about the organization that provides the education to the school.  She is affiliated with this group but isn't in the trenches of what the organization does, including the fund-raising.  And since she wasn't familiar with it - she mentioned she thought the school was involved in the Walk.  That would have been an excellent time for the principal in say something like "Yes, the school was involved. In fact, the school won 1st place trophy."  But no.  Not a word.  I'm not going to lie - it did bother me.  So -- my dear husband spoke up.  I could tell he was upset.  He informed the group about all the fundraising we did and about the trophy.  I asked my husband not to call attention to me.  It was only then the jerk spoke up and acknowledged my efforts.  I know it's not about me.  It's just so blatant that he doesn't support anything I do.  It's about getting things done.  Not what his little advocacy group does -- NOTHING!!  My girlfriend attends these meetings and says all they do is sit around and talk about it.  There is no urgency anyway because their kids don't have the wonderful problems my poor guys have had.  These are the ones who raise money for the school so that the principal looks good.  I have contributed in that forum, too, but not to the degree that they have.  Everyone has their own "thing".  I just wish it wasn't so difficult.  But -- it if it were easy......it wouldn't be a challenge to me.  I will admit - I do like challenges.   Oh - strangely enough - just minutes before I left for the meeting, I rec'd an e-mail from the juvenile detective.  He knows of my involvement in the mental health arena, so to speak.  He asked me if I could hook him up with a speaker for the police dept.  He is also a member of the SWAT team and they need someone to address teen depression/suicide to them.    Well.....maybe I am not completely finished with this cause.....
