So confused with my therapist

I've been seeing my therapist for 2 1/2 years and im so attatched to her. i see her like shes my mom. when i started seeing her i didnt even like her and now i love her like a mother. i am bi polar , borderline personality and depression and anxiety. when i first started seeing her she would endear me and call me baby and sweetie and honey and different things and i loved it. she was affectionate toward me and gave hugs all the time. she still does all this but she rarely ever calls me baby anymore and i miss it. why does this bother me so much? i have no idea. i have never felt so close to someone who wasnt family and ive never been more grateful for a human being like i am for her. she emails me everyday except weekends and she says goodnight to me every night too. lately ive been feeling more distance with her and it scares me i want to get her close to me again i dont know whats wrong or whats going on with us. its so frustrating.

Honestly that is not normal behavior for a therapist. I am afraid that she is either 1. Leading you on because she is attracted to you or 2. Trying to get a unhealthy connection with you which is detrimental to your overall mental health.

I know you really have grown attached to her but she is violating a code of ethics which will only cause you (not her) damage.

It sounds like you really need to find another therapist. This is for your own good. No need to leave yourself open for more hurt.

I love you and only want to protect you.

Agree with country girl because it sounds like you see her as replacing some of the emotional closeness that is missing in your own life. It might be better to build friendship relationships with others so you won\'t be so needy of your therapist. Some of my best friends know more about me then any therapist ever did!

God Bless!

ask her to call you \"baby\" and not to use your first name. she will correct it on your file.

she sounds like an extremely attentive therapist?

hope it works out.

It is unusual behavior from a therapist, but since she started treating you with this kind of closeness and familiarity (\"baby\") and now appears to be distancing herself, I feel you should have a frank discussion about it. Don\'t suffer in silence.

I would be upset if someone were nice to me then stopped doing that. I think it confuses a person when a person is nice then stops doing it or changes. I think knowing that the type of thing your therapist is doing is hurtful and u r not wrong to feel funny about the change your therapist made with u can help u because then u will not feel bad for the way u r feeling. I agree with Livingwater I think u should talk to your therapist about this and tell her it hurts u that she was nice to u and now she is not. If she is not nice to u and u don\'t get a satisfactory answer from her then u might want to see if it can be worked out if u can\'t work it out u might consider seeing a new therapist but there is nothing wrong with u for feeling this way. I would get upset too and I think other people would get upset too. Please don\'t feel bad for feeling this way. If u need to talk to me please let me know. Hugs and love.
