Snow

I hope everyone else on here who got the snow is surviving. We got well over a foot here and more on the way. I had to miss work yesterday, not sure yet about tomorrow. We haven't had a snow like this since I was a little kid!

So far, thankfully, our power is still on and the pipes haven't frozen. I have animals outside with a heat lamp. I'm worried about the heat lamp and space heaters in the house causing a fire, so haven't been sleeping well. We all get up and sleep at weird times.

I should probably go do some shoveling...if I can find my rubber boots and coveralls. Haven't needed them since 2010, so who knows where they are. Might have to use trash bags on my legs, the snow is up to almost my knees.

Our gas backup heat isn't working, can't figure out why, so if the power goes, we are fucked. If I can get out of the driveway, I might go to the farm store and get supplies, like a kerosene heater. We used to have one, and a generator. I think they got stolen or lost as they were last seen at my other property.

Good luck to everyone! Finally got a real winter in the Midwest, and I hear other places too. Every winter no matter if it's cold or not, we always say "stay warm!" As a kind of blessing. Well this time I actually mean it!

Stay safe and warm folks! These kinds of winters build character, now's your chance!

They won't come in. They have a house. I turn the lamp off during the day because they are out playing in the snow. They have an insulated little house with a lamp in it and a heated water bowl. Plus their fur. I have tried to bring them in but they run off. It's two cats and a dog. I can't catch them so I just built them a house outside on the porch with heat. Best I can do. This is why animal dumping is so cruel. the animals get traumatized and it's hard to tame them down or care for them properly. All my pets are rescues who were dumped.
