Snap-gulp

The sea calms.  The waves still.  i hear voices - cheerful, friendly voices, on the horizon.  The sun shines warmly down upon me, and I relax.  My feet find the floor beneath me, and I cautiously, carefully, stand erect.  Slowly, disbelievingly, I let out my tense, anxious breath.
And then, before I draw in the next breath, the icy seaweed wrapped about my feet and ankles suddenly snaps taut, plunging me beneath the surface again.  Everywhere I reach, I feel only the slimy, living, malicious ropes of razor-edged vines, writhing around me.  The surface is nowhere to be found.

Wondering who would miss me if I disappeared.
