Smoothies
So today I decided to make a smoothie for breakfast. Since surgery my tastes in food have changed, I can't stand houmous any more, it tastes bitter and unpleasant. Now I like bananas, where as I didn't before. All part of the learning curve I guess. Plus I'm still juggling with my budget and food shop, I keep buying more vegetables than I manage to eat and then I have to throw them away and seeing as I have a strict budget of £30 a week for food any and all that's wasted is painful to see. My excitement of surgery may have overshadowed my forethought of how to fit student life around the new me. It's working but there may be a few bumps in the road yet. Any way, back to the smoothie. I was amazed at how good it tasted, plus it kept me full all morning, so I didn't eat my normal mid morning snack. It was one frozen banana, 175g fat free strawberry yoghurt and 30g of chocolate protein powder. It tasted amazing, like one of those ice cream milkshakes. Minus the sugar and fat overload. Made me happy that I could enjoy something that tasted like it was so bad but actually so good. It's the little things, isn't it?
After I was ill I was doing some digging and rooting around for various inspirational bits and bobs but my favourite quote is and always will be 'Courage is needed. Courage as deep as despair' this thought, and this alone managed to get me through my parents break up when I was younger. It drove me as I went through surgery. And any hardship since all I do is think of this and somehow I pull myself through. Another one was 'To know joy you must know depression. To feel love you must feel hate. To sense peace you must have been destroyed.' which I think nicely ties up most feelings in life. Which led me back to thinking how strange the journey we're all on is. I mean, no one but us can truly understand because we have been pushed to our limits in the negative and now we're heading to the opposite positives. Unless you have been morbidly obese I don't believe you can be truly appreciative of your skinniness. My mother is very supportive but she can never know what I've been through and while I could let it irritate me instead I thank whatever power is out there that she and my friends never have to feel the pain, shame and loneliness I went through being what I was. 'Only I know with what I can deal, I bore pain that would make the weak kneel' right, I'll stop quoting now. These things were just in my mind. They can go back now.
It's lovely and sunny outside today. Think I'll head out for a walk with Missy-moo...
