Smoking Cigarettes

I started smoking when I was around thirteen or fourteen. It was not my first vice but it was definitely one of the earliest to really take hold on me. I regret a few decisions I made over the years but I have to say, deciding to become a smoker for whatever reason, is a very HUGE regret for me.
I think the tobacco companies must target children. I honestly have never met anyone who decided to take up this stupid and deadly habit once they were out of their teens. Of all the addictions I have struggled with over the years smoking is the worst.
I did manage to stop for two and a half months only to realize that smoking is a way for me to keep intrusive thinking at bay and keep a handle on some other even less socially acceptable behaviors. Armed with this knowledge I will be better prepared for my next attempt.
I was proud of myself for the time I did not smoke, it was my first attempt in my 35+ years of smoking. I originally stopped because I live at the bottom of a fairly steep hill and I was wheezing by the time I got to the top where the store was to, you guessed it, get my smokes.
I made a conscious effort to not change my eating habits. When I had a craving I went for a burn on my treadmill, walked around the block or drank water. I still ended up putting on weight and, ironically, wheezing on my way up the hill.
So now not only am I back to smoking, I have a weight issue to deal with. I stopped smoking last time cold turkey, I think I am going to use a nicotine mist or a gum this time. ...and get a gym membership. lol
I guess the point I'm trying to make in my usual rambling manner is, if you are a young person don't start. If you are responsible for young people tell them the truth about smoking and how truly addictive it is. AND it's a gross habit that kills half of the people that indulge in it. 50%. That's for real.
