small step , but giant leap!

My 2 year old son has recently begun to drink  from his straw sippy cup by himself!  Before I would've had to hold the bottle all the time because he did not have the coordination to keep it and bring it to his mouth, but now, praise GOD, he holds it and brings it to his mouth!
He feels so independent! Everytime I try to help him in case the cup tips too far or if he drops it, he fusses and refuses to let me help him.  He would pick it back up, readjust it, and continue drinking from it!
He hasn't gotten the hang of holding it with two hands because his left hand is the weaker hand (although if i place his other hand on the handle he holds on for dear life! lol, but eventually the right hand pulls it away)  so he holds it predominantly with the right hand, but he has to begin somewhere right??
I am so very proud of my son, who is fighting so hard to show his independence.  May God continue to strengthen him!

It\'s such wonderful news. I know in time, with practice this will probably become easier for him. As you say his weaker hand isn\'t as strong, but with a little more practice I am sure he will get the hang of holding the cup with both hands. A small step, but a significant one. Well done to both of you.

I am so very happy for you and your son. That is a HUGE step in the right direction! I felt the same way when my son started to drink his Pediasure out if a cup. He hasn\'t had to be on his feeding tube overnight in months! It makes things so much easier. He still needs maximum assist to get the cup to his mouth, but now he\'ll actually take a drink from it, whereas before, he would just push it away. Keep up the good work, both of you, and keep sharing the good news! God bless :)
