SKINNY WEDNESDAY ON THE 700 CLUB
While I am not a rightwing conservative by any means, 2 or 3 times a week I still tune in to THE 700 CLUB. Especially if I can catch it on SKINNY WEDNESDAY. Today they read a letter from a woman who asked how important are weekly weigh-ins when determining how well you're losing weight? Pat Robertson emphatically stated "THE SCALE WILL DECEIVE YOU". Most of the time fluid retention (or the lack of it) will give unrealistic loss or gain. He said A TAPE MEASURE AROUND YOUR WAIST IS A MORE RELIABLE INDICATOR OF LOSING FAT (as opposed to losing water or muscle). Also, he said what I recently wrote in my Journal, GO BY THE FIT OF YOUR CLOTHING. Don't get discouraged by those plateaus on the scale!! They also advertised a book called DON'T EAT THIS, EAT THAT. This talked about the most fattening brands of food at the market. Of course you and I don't need to buy a book. JUST READ THE NUTRITION LABELS. Most people on here already know that Healthy Choice dinners are way lower in fat than Marie Callender! It's not rocket science, but we all need a reminder now and then about the importance of PORTION SIZE, knowing what we're getting. Which often means MEASURING not estimating! On the diet group discussion posts, I wrote this. Again I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence. Most of are aware of portion size, but from the looks of Americans, many are NOT getting the message. Supersize portions lead to supersize people! Often people do not realize, esp. with restaurant portions of pasta, they could be eating 3 to 4 cups if they clean their plate! And that's not counting the garlic bread! Even with drinking glasses, some people think they are consuming 8 oz. of a beverage while really it's a 12 oz. glass they are using. Or they think they put a cup of cereal into their bowl, but unless they measure, it's probably closer to 2. People counting calories sometimes "forget" to count the sugar or creamer they put in their coffee. Or they forget to double the calories AND the fat grams that are on the label if they eat 2 servings. Wake up, America, we are feeding ourselves to death. Downsize don't supersize!! I agree on the portion sizes. I had lunch out yesterday and ordered a chicken tender basket. I got 3 huge chicken tenders with fries. 2 chicken tenders would have been more than enough. The portions when eating out are ridiculous!
Last year my family ate out and I ordered a pasta dinner. I took at least half home in a doggy bag! I was stuffed on half of what they served. My brother in law\'s SISTER, however, nearly finished her huge pasta serving and then wanted chocolate cake for dessert! Wonder why SHE\'S heavy!
I watch 700 Club nearly every week night. It is very interesting and as you said esp Skinny Wednesday. I saw them comparing different things with the man who wrote Eat this, not that, It really opened my eyes on some things. I also agree we do need to measure our food. Even if we have measured a cup of cereal or whatever the amout is to be for a while then think we know what it looks like if you don\'t watch yourself you start to add a little more each time and soon you have too much in your bowl. You are right in al you said.
It\'s a bit of a nuisance to measure, but well worth it! In another post, Joyce Marilyn suggested putting fruit in your cereal bowl BEFORE you add the 3/4 c. or cup of cereal. Makes it look like more. :)
