SKINNY WEDNESDAY ON THE 700 CLUB

While I am not a rightwing conservative by any means, 2 or 3 times a week I still tune in to THE 700 CLUB.  Especially if I can catch it on SKINNY WEDNESDAY. Today they read a letter from a woman who asked how important are weekly weigh-ins when determining how well you're losing weight?  Pat Robertson emphatically stated "THE SCALE WILL DECEIVE YOU". Most of the time fluid retention (or the lack of it) will give unrealistic loss or gain. He said A TAPE MEASURE AROUND YOUR WAIST IS A MORE RELIABLE INDICATOR OF LOSING FAT (as opposed to losing water or muscle). Also, he said what I recently wrote in my Journal, GO BY THE FIT OF YOUR CLOTHING.  Don't get discouraged by those plateaus on the scale!! They also advertised a book called DON'T EAT THIS, EAT THAT.  This talked about the most fattening brands of food at the market.  Of course you and I don't need to buy a book.  JUST READ THE NUTRITION LABELS.  Most people on here already know that Healthy Choice dinners are way lower in fat than Marie Callender!  It's not rocket science, but we all need a reminder now and then about the importance of PORTION SIZE, knowing what we're getting.  Which often means MEASURING not estimating! On the diet group discussion posts, I wrote this.  Again I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence.   Most of are aware of portion size, but from the looks of Americans, many are NOT getting the message. Supersize portions lead to supersize people! Often people do not realize, esp. with restaurant portions of pasta, they could be eating 3 to 4 cups if they clean their plate! And that's not counting the garlic bread! Even with drinking glasses, some people think they are consuming 8 oz. of a beverage while really it's a 12 oz. glass they are using. Or they think they put a cup of cereal into their bowl, but unless they measure, it's probably closer to 2. People counting calories sometimes "forget" to count the sugar or creamer they put in their coffee. Or they forget to double the calories AND the fat grams that are on the label if they eat 2 servings. Wake up, America, we are feeding ourselves to death. Downsize don't supersize!!
