SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS//Roberto Clemente 40 years since his death//richard's mobile//rn's house//out
"Baseball slugger Roberto Clemente died 40 years ago on New Year's Eve, 1972 - Clemente was killed with four others in a plane crash as they tried to get food and other supplies from his native Puerto Rico to earthquake-ravaged Nicaragua. Clemente was 38 years old and had finished exactly 3,000 hits in his Major League Baseball career. He was at the height of his game and should have been around for another few years.
The Hall of Fame waived its five-year waiting period — something it had done only for Lou Gehrig — and Clemente was admitted to Cooperstown the summer following his death. The first big baseball star from Latin America, Clemente is considered a Jackie Robinson-type figure in baseball.
Tom Walker was a relief pitcher with the pirates and a friend of Roberto Clemente in the early 70's. Walker had offered to fly with Clemente to help give out supplies in Nicaragua...had he gone he would have been killed in the plane crash as well. Clemente talked Walker out of joining them because it was New Year's Eve - an important holiday to a "young" person. Tom Walker was only 24 at the time. Clemente told Walker to enjoy the holiday. Today, one of Walker's sons, born after Clemente died, is also a professional baseball player with the Pirates, had Walker been on that plane, his son would not have been born.
"I saw the game in which Clemente samashed a line drive back up the middle and hit Bob Gibson in the hip, Gibson retrieved the ball and threw Clemente out at first base and then collasped on the field with a fractured bone in his leg. To this day I don't ever think I have seen such raw power and that includes some of the best in the league today. Clemente had it all and still found time to give to those who were less fortunate.
Great Ballplayer, but even Greater individual."
spent the night at richard's mobile, mostly by accident. it was 65 in there without the heat on last night, even though it was cold last night. however, by 3 a.m. it was VERY COLD out and became 53 inside, super cold. lol. then went to see where the other guy's church is, its a nazarene church so it interested me and he's invited me to it a couple of times when i'm at the mom and pop cafe. then went to the mom and pop for their $2 breakfast special, they have the best homefries of ANYWHERE. the waiter who tries to know your order in advance was there, got most of it right and then apologised again about the pizza from last MONTH, i didn't even remember by then. and hugged me. i also ordered an italian 6 inch sub ($3.50 with a drink!), which he made himself and was fabulous. so back in good graces for now.
went to rn's after that to drop off bagels and discovered the siamese kittens may have mange, so packed some ivermectin for her and their adoptions will wait 3 more weeks until it clears up. then finally got home by lunchtime, did two loads of laundry, fed all the animals and left again for up north. at some point i'll end up tired today - i think i got five hours of sleep, not quite enough.

You really are way to busy. I think it is time for a rest don\'t you. Your body needs to relax. I hope those kittens with mange will be ok. I am having a hard time waiting for your pages to load on my computer. What is DS doing.
Are you sure it\'s mange? Can you get a vet to do a skin scraping to make sure? I hardly ever seen mange in cats. It could be something else.
actually we get cats and kittens with mange every year. we deal with animals in large number which is probably why. we do 100 adoptions yearly. the amount of money they charge for a scraping, i can fix a feral cat. the amount of money it costs me to treat five kittens with ivermectin that i keep in stock is MINIMAL. plus the ivermectin kills off alllll parasites and that is good for them. it also prevents heartworm. we also use it for some skin ailments. its AMAZING how great that drug is.
how is the weather up by you. must be a few feet of snow?
ds .... it has to get a different server. the site is BRILLIANT but the rest of it needs sooooo much work. xxoo
