Sinus spray?... No, thank you!

So, I took Western Family Brand Sinus 12-hour Nasal spray yesterday because my sinuses were KILLING me! I'll never take it again. Here's what happened... I opened the bottle and sprayed my first nostril. It stung a little but wasn't too bad. The next nostril, oh that was a joy. I sprayed and my eye on that side started twitching like I ate a lemon, then it rolled into my head and did this butterfly flutter thing. It was quite disconcerting. But then I felt it start running back out my nose. At this point I should have stopped... but OH NO! I just kept squirting until it was running down the back of my throat and I gagged on it.  Then I ran and got the boys and headed off to work. For the first 2 hours I felt like I was in another world. I was foggy headed and couldn't concentrate. My face felt flushed, then felt like it was on fire. My heart started racing, I got dizzy, I felt nauseous... I felt like crap. Then I started feeling better but it got weird. By about 6 PM I felt really giggly and my chest felt fuzzy. I know now that I really should have gone to the ER but I wasn't able to think clearly enough to do that. I felt GREAT! In fact, I felt high. I should have just smoked a fatty. So I am walking around working and everything was funny. Shoe fell? Hysterical laughter. Someone sneeze? Giggles. Trip? Laughing some more. It got annoying but I couldn't quit laughing.  So I went and asked the nurse for the medicine book and we looked it up. The medicine book wasn't completely helpful since it only lists the most common side effects... burning, stinging, dryness of the nose, hives. I was completely stupid by the time I got off work. I was laughing at everything. For 4 hours I was laughing through work. My face hurt from laughing. Sky drove me home (I couldn't drive) and I laughed for nearly two more hours. I went to bed and this morning I feel like someone beat the crap out of my face. I feel hung over. My tongue has the feeling of burning and my eyes are puffy. I also have a killer headache. I feel like crap... but my sinuses are clear! Isn't that great! I did research on oxymetazoline hydrochorlide (the active ingredient) and found more side effects on it... They are:      difficulty breathing     closing of your throat     swelling of your lips, tongue, or face     hives.     Seizures     Unusual behavior or hallucinations     an irregular or fast heartbeat  Thinking on it now, I should have gone to the ER but when it was happening, I couldn't think clear enough to say "Help. This isn't right".  So, I am posting this as a public journal post so that hopefully someone else will read this and learn from it.  If a loved one takes medicine and starts acting weird, take them to the doctor.  As for me, I will not take nasal sprays again. I'll just deal with the sinus congestion.
