Signed Up For A Fundraiser

Saw Runner's thread and thought I'd try something too. Signed up for a fundraiser for my favorite charity. It's a painting party. Looks laid back and noncommittal enough for Ms. Paranoid Avoidant, plus I get to do something rather than just sit. It took me three hours to make up my mind to register. At least I'll have something to tell people when they ask, "So what have you been doing?"  Yes now, if my car holds together, and nothing catastrophic happens, I'll have that in my back pocket to whip out at the opportune time.  "I went to a fundraiser. Haha!"
A sister-in-law called today. First thing she asked was what am I doing. Nothing. Then she asked if I was keeping  busy. No. Should have launched into something first because she talked for an hour while I listened. Her husband is getting wound up for the same surgery my husband had. Told her I was sorry she was going to go through that with him. She seemed very upbeat about it. What could I say? She was describing the exact same path I walked over a year ago. Told her it didn't have to turn out the same way for them. I don't feel convinced of that though. Not a good idea to talk to a fairly recent widow about your husband's surgery. She asked about my family, "I heard this, are they going to do that". I didn't want to talk anymore. Lord help me.

Thought I\'d enjoy it more than I did. It wasn\'t terrible, but I\'m still not ready for a lot of bubbly small talk and hearing the words \"Smile!\" and \"Are you OK?\". Blah. Wait three months and try again.
