Shopping
Me? Shopping? I'm more likely to enjoy a proctology exam than a shopping expedition, but this weekend found me hopping from store to store like a newlywed trophy bride. Well. . . Minus the fact that I didn't buy much. No place to put it, but that might be changing soon. I tell myself I am putting together the budget for if all the ifs come into alignment on the house. Looking good so far, but it ain't over till the ink dries. It is a tentative budget, at best. The plan is set up my camp gear in the house and sleep with it a few days before I let myself be certain of anything. Mike Campbell's guitar solo is on a playback loop in my head. The waiting is the hardest part.
Had a quasi-weird visit this morning. One of those wandering souls who cruise the bewitching hours in search of random encounters saw my open motel room door and stopped to investigate. He felt kind of dangerous to me, but most of the souls who wander the bewitching hours are showing at least some dangerous elements. Takes one to know one. The visit was only quasi-weird. Invasions of my pre-dawn activities don't happen often, but they do happen. My first reaction is always annoyance and an impulse to drive the invader away, but I am invariably glad when I calm the impulse and flow with the event. Maurice was no exception. I think our conversation calmed his dangerous elements enough to get him ready for sleep. Prayers in progress.
At the last Salvation Army service, they were looking for volunteers to help sort donations at the local store. Think I'll go check that out this morning. I need a distraction from the waiting anxiety.

I think it's so smart to set up your camping gear for a few days to get adjusted. Then it'll be game on!
I have done donation sorting in my past. it is very good for distraction, the exercise helps with sleeping at night too.
I have done donation sorting for quite a few community projects. I have a pretty limited tolerance for the job, but that seems to be held as a qualification more often than a deterrent. Donation sorting definitely feeds my Throw-away Nazi drives. The things that some people think are worth saving never ceases to amaze me.
It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.
"I have a pretty limited tolerance for the job, but that seems to be held as a qualification more often than a deterrent." HAHAHAHAHAH
The fact that I am not mistaking it for fun makes for some extreme efficiency. The folks who are putting up with my brusque attitude are still grateful to see it getting done. Criticisms just might win them the job.
Hell...Walmart. Hell...Walmart.
How do people tell the difference?
(I've donated stuff to the Salvation Army rather than facing the return desk.)
The Salvation Army gig didn't work out. Not yet, anyway. They have an application process and I didn't think to bring data for the references. I might take fill out the missing data and take it back, but feeling like I'm undergoing enough due process at the moment. For now, I am just looking for a way to be helpful while channeling nervous energy. So far this looks more likely to create more nervous energy.
