Shocking
My father-in-law called & spoke to DH tonight. It turns out that their pastor of 10 years (who had also been their youth pastor about 20 years ago) suddenly resigned. Reason: he was having a 10-year long affair with a former church member from NJ (they now live in Western NY).
He certainly didn't seem like "the type"; he did seem to be quite a godly man, at least from what I could see. He certainly fooled his whole congregation for 10 years.
What bothered me the most (besides what he did to his poor wife & 5 kids) is that I actually took notes on & listened to the things he preached. How is God supposed to anoint that? My husband says, "Well, he was still preaching from the Word; *that's* still the same." But is it, really? I feel sad also for the young believers that followed him from my in-laws' church. How are they supposed to believe anything?
Funny, in our small group on Friday night we studied James 3, about how one shouldn't presume to be a teacher because they'd be judged more harshly. Aint' that the truth!
