Serve Agile’s Guide to Individual Action for Making the World a Better Place

The idea of making the world a better place is pretty daunting and often makes us think about what impact a single person can make. Yet, the Founder of non-profit ‘Serve Agile,’ Prabhat Sharma, believes in the power of one that can transform the world for the better.
Sharma has a firm faith that even when an individual is one and only, he has the strength to do something, though not everything. However, what makes an individual distinct is his determination to do the one thing he could do and not worry about everything he could not. “Only if each individual could contribute to making the world a better place, billion acts of kindness, social responsibility, and generosity would have happened, and that individual alone could change the face of this planet,” he says.
Prabhat Sharma has been indulged in creating awareness about the pressing concerns that threaten the environment. Through the platform of ‘Serve Agile,’ Sharma has led several beach clean-ups campaigns. He also actively hosts community gatherings to spread the fatal impact of limiting plastics, recycling, and personal waste on marine life and the environment on the whole.
Additionally, Prabhat Sharma is also the forerunner of ‘Feed My Starving Children,’ an organization that feeds less fortunate people in places like Africa. Being a genuine soul with a soft corner for people in need, Prabhat Sharma is resolute to make this world a better place and inspire others to do the same. He also stresses that individuals do not need to do charities or get involved in pretty big things to make a difference. “Even a small action at a time can have a ripple effect, influencing others to contribute in a good cause,” he says.
Sharma explains that any individual can volunteer and play his part in constructing a better world. “I often motivate young blood to volunteer at places and spend quality time with the people in old-homes or orphanages, and bring smiles on their faces, for nothing could make this world better than spreading joy,” he says.
Also, individuals can volunteer at charity schools, teaching kids from underprivileged regions. Prabhat Sharma expresses that this very thing can have an enduring influence on creating a better world. “When you teach kids, you create an informed society that is not just better in the present but also in the future. As kids are the future of this world, these kids in the future would reciprocate the same thing they received from this world: compassion,” he says.
Prabhat Sharma also advises individuals to master the art of empathy and acknowledge the dignity of other humans. “Individuals must realize that if they are privileged, it does not make them a superhuman. You must be respectful towards humanity, and by just this trivial thing, you too can make a difference, see it is just that easy, no math involved. Go greet that homeless man you see during your commute to work, he is no less of a human, your warm smile could mend his broken heart, and so help mend this broken world one person at a time,” he says.
The altruist also highlights that an individual can serve to safeguard the environment with just little steps. “Refuse taking paper money and opt for online payments, send an email rather than letters, use less paper, conserve papers and trees, and that is how simply you can save our mother nature, reducing the rate of deforestation. What else, drive less, and opt for a good bi-cycle ride to your friend’s home, and here you just reduced the carbon emission that messes up the air quality, rescuing the environment from greenhouse gases. Keep track of your carbon footprint, and your individual contribution could lead to the better world,” he says.
Consequently, Prabhat Sharma elucidates that a meek stride that individuals need to take to make a difference is to be generous. “Being generous does not imply spending thousands in charity, be generous with your time and energy. Stop falling into the trap of material-driven societal expectations and strive to become generous. The chances are that by sowing the seeds of generosity within your soul, you will feel less helpless about making the world a better place,” he says. After all, little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean, and the pleasant land.
