September 2, 2011 - not a good day for me....
good afternoon everyone,
the day started out to be ok. Jen had a nurse exec meeting over at Buffalo General and the instructors were teaching as usual. I remembered to put signs on the doors if I had to leave the office for more than 10 minutes (both Sonja and Arlene were off). I took my lunch at 12 noon. I noticed that Diane from HR was awfully quiet. I really didn't question it too much. 12:30 I came back to the desk (I was sitting at Arlene's desk because that is what they wanted me to do if they were both off). Jen comes in and says "we have a meeting with HR at 1" I figured, ok. A lot of things were running through my mind - am I being fired, written up again (formerly this time)? I came down to the HR conference room and there was both Jen and Wendy. Both had their "manager faces" on. Apparently, they were bringing up that I was on the internet looking at DS too much and other websites. They brought up some websites that I looked at in May. May? This is August.....I didn't question. They produced a page document of all the sites that I went on (only partial) during the May dates in question. They wanted to know what other sites I went on, I just mentioned that it was only MSN.com and dailystrength.com. They also had a point of correction form that they formerly typed up and I had to sign. Jen keeps bringing up my productivity and initative while I work. She brought up things that we had discussed over and over again at various meetings we had. When will this let up? Do I start to look for another job? (Im beginning to think so). What do you think I should do. Its obvious to me that she had my employee file and it looked kinda thick (she is still referring to items (and brought this up to Wendy) that were suppose to be worked on by me from the last talk we did) and that she is still documenting. What they have put for me is a 1 day suspension without pay!! That means is, I cannot return to work until Wednesday, 9/7. I don't know what to do, they claim that I was on chat rooms (which we have no access to), facebook (according to the May reports - ok I did but that was the last time), utube.com (we have no access to this - I need to have special permission for some class to get on this, so I have no idea where this was coming from), growingupwithus.com (this is a website that I pull articles off for the instructors and its put on our talent management website - I emailed this to the appropriate HR people so I hope to have an answer to this site when I return on Wed). So they have me on a 90 day Plan of correction - no internet and will be doing periodic checking of my computer. They gave me an internet policy for Kaleida Health and asked me to read and sign it (I did this, but I haven't given it to anyone). I put everything in a sealed envelope and put it in a locked drawer - so no one can see. Right now, I am really upset and crying as I type this. I feel like they are somehow trying to get rid of me and want to put a different person in my position. I feel no matter what I do, its not good enough, not initiative enough, not trying hard enough, just enough. Maybe I am going though some burnout and need to look for something else for awhile. The problem is that I would be taking a severe cut in pay if I do this. Its not like I am a nurse and could have a job tomorrow. Sometimes I think I should leave town and find a job out of state too. I don't know how to react to the others because when they don't see me on Tuesday, they might try and figure out something. I know Sonja will be worried (I will not be calling her - this might be something to reveal at a later date). Michele noticed that I was upset about something (I had a worried face on since this meeting. I told her "don't worry about me, I will talk about it later - much later". I cleaned my office and threw papers away or put them away in file folders and filed them away (prying eyes...can't trust anyone). The office looks great but I never wiped down the desk. I will do this on Wed morning. I need to start covering my tracks alittle tighter around the department. I know Jen is trying to make the department have a stellar image but she is going at it all wrong. She is kaniving and trying to pin us against eachother. Did I tell you that she sent Sonja stating that we are to take separate lunches to cover the office? Rosanna would have never done this. Rosanna protected us. For the past week, I bearly had a lunch. Tuesday, I went down to get lunch and ate the spagetti and ran back to my desk - lunch - probably 15 minutes. Wed, I bearly had time to eat - Jen kept looking for Mary to talk to her about something, went into my office to call Sonja just to make sure she was picking up my line. Then She went to get her lunch at 1:15, I finished my lunch, closed my book I have been reading for a million years and went back to my desk - 15 minute lunch again. Thur - I had lunch again at 1pm but she didn't bother me for the full 30 minutes (wow! 1 lunch in 5 days). Today, well..you know. I was able to eat lunch at 12 but Diane from HR had a funny look on her and didn't even look at me. Arlene and Sonja are pissed because they are worried that I am not getting my 30 minutes as scheduled. Its almost like I am afraid to do anything for fear that I am doing something "wrong". I am expected to get 20 years within our hospital system come feb - I am beginning to wonder if I will make it by then. This rate - no. I am having a hard time working under these conditions and need to make some decisions soon. If they don't watch themselves, we all might be walking (Arlene, myself and Sonja - actually I could see Arlene flying the coop pretty soon - much faster than me if things don't go ok - she is almost 70 years old, she doesn't have to work and under these conditions!). Maybe it might be her ploy to get rid of me and put someone else in the position - perhaps someone who worked with her at University of Buffalo or D'Youville College? As you can tell, my head is really spinning right now. This is helping a bit. Still not happy but at least I am talking about it with you guys. Instead of having a 3 day weekend, I have 4 (except 1 is unpaid, which sucks - thank god its not rent week and my car is paid off).
I do have my followup from my PET scan from last week on Tuesday so I do need to get up early and be at the dr office for a 8:45am appt. that saves me from explaining myself as to why I need to take 2.5 hr PTO.
Update on The Jen-PA insident....Jen paid me her $40.00 on Tuesday. She also mentioned that her check from the VA was actually in her account all along. I am still putting my foot down as to the trips to PA with her and her not having the gas money right there. I did tell her again that the trips will be off immediately if she does not have the cash for gas. She also put her dad's paperwork on the senior apartment next door to her. It should take about 4 months. She hasn't talked to Sara either - and probably won't forever after what she said about the weekend. It was her ploy in getting Floyd's family out of her life for good. Something is definitely wrong with that woman.
My running has been going so so. I was suppose to run tonight but its too damn hot. 85 degrees at 6pm doesn't sit well with me. espeically since they want us to run these higher milages now. I might not come back for the remainder of the sessions and see them at linda yalem run on 9/25. I got my shirt for the group.
Again, I am sorry that I had to complain about work - again. Its just getting so crazy and I am losing patience with Jen and the way she is running the department. I think something will be done if she loses all 3 of us (they might question her).

I haven\'t been on DS much and I\'m sorry that you\'re going through so much BS at work. It just seems that employers have become insatiable wanting more and more and more. I know with FedEx, if you pull off the impossible, they don\'t reward you for it and only make it as the new standard. We have become slaves to low paying jobs and bad situations because they have all become low paying jobs and bad situations.
I don\'t know if you\'re an exempt (salaried) or a nonexempt (hourly) employee, but if you\'re hourly, working through your lunch breaks is a violation of the Portal to Portal Act. FedEx lost a major lawsuit in California over this a few years back. Just an avenue to consider.
I think it\'s time to find a different job but sadly, most companies have become like the one you work for. It has become ridiculously absurd.
The heat has put a real damper on my running program, too. I ran 13.1 miles on Monday but I had to do the eliptical three days because of the humidity and recovering from Monday\'s run. I ran 15 hellish miles today. I have a half-marathon in Cleveland that I\'ll be doing next Sunday. I think that will be the swan song for my long distance running career. I have had enough.
Anyways, big big hugs my friend.
Jen, So sorry you are having to deal with a manager who is trying to put a feather in her own cap, rather than help her employees....this place is full of that type of person, and I have no respect for any of them....
