Self-Respect
Today someone at work behaved in an inappropriate manner, behaved in a way that was not consistent with respecting their job or respecting me... In the past, I might have let it slide, or blamed their behavior on myself, or procrastinated dealing with it. I would probably have been beating myself up over gambling so badly that I might even have thought I deserved it.....today was different. I handled it right away, and I think I handled it in an appropriate manner. I have this different feeling about things now....the feeling that putting up with crappy behavior from others, (particularly an employee!) just isn't acceptable. I'm not talking about walking around with a chip on my shoulder, or expecting to have my butt kissed 24/7. I'm talking about people treating me (and in the case of employees, their job) in a respectful way.... I didn't have any problem communicating this in a calm manner...I don't feel like I have to put up with bad behavior anymore....I don't understand why I did at times in the past....I think it has a lot to do with self-respect. Today I don't hate myself like I did when I was gambling. Today I feel I'm ENTITLED to be treated with respect. Today I don't feel I should "settle." I think this bodes well for the future! I have a long way to go.....but I think I'm on my way.....I'm not a perfect person, or a perfect boss, I am definitely a work in progress....but today I am happy that I think I am seeing a little bit of progress....
