Self-Assertiveness Session was great.

How does one be assertive when the other person is drunk? The answer is one cannot be assertive when the other person is drunk because said person cannot process assertiveness when drunk.
Anyway that’s my mum. She’s drunk again. For at least the last four nights she’s been drunk and I’m really getting worried. Tonight she sat on the toilet for an hour (that I know about) talking to people on the phone. Who does that? We only have one bathroom, and I really needed to pee so I guess I noticed the time. After she finally got off the phone (and the toilet) she wanted to argue with me. She was very defensive about even the most pettiest of things I said. Things that she normally wouldn’t be offensive about, she immediately flew off the bat and wanted to argue.
I don’t know why she’s drinking so much. I’m just really worried about her. When will it stop? Will it ever stop? And what scares me the most, will it get worse?
Okay so I’m going to stop thinking about that because it’s just depressing. I had a really positive day in my self-assertiveness session. The people were really nice and I found myself unwinding more towards the second half after I’d had something to eat. I found the class very informative and I’m going to try and apply assertiveness to my life. At this stage I’m a very passive person, practically a doormat so it’s very hard for me to be assertive. I’ve learnt it before, very briefly and when I was a lot younger. It doesn’t work so much with my mum because she can tend to be a very negative person when I screw up. She’s always bringing up past mistakes I’ve made. And she always says I’ll never change, which really hurts coming from someone who I love and admire so much. She says such hurtful things sometimes. For a while I’d started to write them down, but I really don’t want to commit them to memory cause those times have been some of the lowest in my life. Getting told “The biggest mistake I ever made was giving birth to you”, even if the person is so angry and hurt with you… there’s just no need for that. Those are the types of things you don’t need to write down because they’re etched so far into your heart they’re like open wounds that have only just closed over. The smallest thing can open them up again.
As for the dog situation, I found a little guy last week named Basil who was in need of a home so I might be getting him. All I have to do is pay for his microchipping fee which can’t be too much. He’s not neutered so I looked at how much I would have to pay on the National Desexing Network website and it’s going to cost $100 which is really quite cheap. One vet in New South Wales was $160 for exactly the same procedure.
So I’d better get some rest. I have to call about Basil tomorrow and find out all the details about him and ask if they can hold him till next Friday. Mum’s likely to fly off the handle if I ask her if I can get him before then. I’m sure the people won’t mind.
