We conducted a turtle observation survey using binoculars at a pond in Inokashira Park , and red-eared sliders accounted for 75%, while reeve’s pond turtles represented only 8%. According to a turtle capturing survey using traps, however, red-eared sliders accounted for 65%, while reeve’s pond turtles represented 28%. As can be seen above, the figures varied depending on the surveys. Similar results have been obtained in surveys conducted at the Zenpukuji Park and Hikarigaoka Park .
A seemingly large population may only reflect the number of “surviving” turtles.
