Seeing bits of blessing

After a stress filled weekend fueled by panic attacks since my DOL announced that she was moving thousands of miles away and taking my grandson with her, I woke Monday in despair remembering that I wouldn't be calling Patrick to come for corned beef and cabbage. I cried, moaned, yelled and then got up and proceeded to cleaned the kitchen from the supper the night before. I seem to do that a lot lately, leave the supper dishes and fall asleep in front of the TV.
After finishing that task, I went to my IPad and looked at my Facebook pictures of my grandson Phoenix. I saw one of her, her daughter and the man that is doing a documentary on Veterans. She was asked to be interviewed and accepted and then told me about it? I told her ask if he wanted to talk to us, we could talk about his life before PTSD. She blew me off as usual concerning Patrick. I was a mess trying to be Godly and loving while feeling left out again. His funeral was run by her and I was taken out of the picture boards at the funeral as well.
We have always been close, so this is new. So close that I was the only one at their wedding and I was her birth coach. Back to Monday...I saw a link on the Facebook post and clicked it to leave a message for the director of the documentary thanking him for his efforts on my son's and other veteran's behalf. I said that I wished I could have met him and thank him in person, and if he had questions that I could answer, please message me. I thought that would be it, so I stared getting some clothes together for a local church give away, as I had called the number I found in the paper the night before.
when I looked back at the IPad, their was a return message from him asking where I was located. I told him that was 2 miles from my DOL, he was a bit taken aback. He asked if I was willing to be interviewed and I hit my knees and cried..I so want this to be about my son and not myself. I want to do this for the right reason. I finally felt some peace and agreed. We left it at him getting back to me if need be. First Patrick "There you go Ma" moment One.
Now,  the phone rings and it is the woman coming to pick up the donations. She comes to the door and we do the small talk chat and I have my son Sam carry the heavy bag to her car. As she opens the door she turns and says, "Are you Pat's mom?". Not WERE like I hear so often, but ARE! Yes I said emphatically, I AM Pat's mom. She went on to say how she went to school with him and he was so funny that no matter what, he could always make her laugh. She also said that she went to the funeral and recognized me from that. We talked about how he won class clown and Mr. MHS, a comical homecoming queen pageant for boys at their school. My heart was so lifted to know yet again what an impact he had on so many lives. "There you go Ma" moment Two.
Flash forward to late afternoon. My son Dustin ( Patrick's brother and best friend) shows up with a friend to prep the veggies and eat with us. We talked about him with no tears just laughter as if he was in the room. Awesome end to the day. God is faithful to restore and I am grateful!

What a bitter sweet journal. I too was largely ignored by my SIL. It was like Harvey was Lisa\'s only family member. Lisa\'s close friends and family got me through the funeral.
It is so sad that your DIL is moving with your grandson. I have a feeling that she is trying to go away to escape to relieve the pain, as if leaving will help. I suspect she will be sorry for her move when she realizes that the pain is still there.
Life does have a way of surprising us. I am so glad that you will be able to share Patrick with others. And isn\'t it wonderful to be able to speak openly and laugh and cry. I am sure Patrick was with you!
Loving hugs to you and Patrick,

Lauri,
Another moment of gratitude just hit me. Josh\'s wife had no idea what to do and no money so now I know it is a blessing that Dave took over. Somehow I was left out of being there. Dave apologized and said it just worked out that way.

Thank you Lauri for blessing my day many times today.
Sending love,
Leda
