Second opinion
I texted my mother after my last appointment to tell her that I needed surgery again. She immediately started texting me back about how she wants me to "see a specialist" and get a second opinion. I texted back that I AM seeing a specialist and that there is NO WAY I can avoid surgery.
I went over for dinner tonight, and my mother immediately started telling me about a specialist she found at Mass General and started telling me that I HAD to make an appointment with him. First I just started telling her no because I can't afford it and I can't take the time off from work, and then she and my dad both kept pushing it and saying that they would pay.
Finally I just burst out and both of them that they DON'T UNDERSTAND that surgery is my ONLY option and I don't need another doctor to tell me that! I reminded my mother that she was THERE at my post-op appointment and she HEARD my gyno say that she only removed a cyst and couldn't get any of the endo and now that cyst is back and bigger than it was before! My dad started interjecting saying that my doctor told them after the surgery that she had "scraped all the endo off" and I kept yelling NO SHE DIDN'T and then, of course, I burst into tears and had to lock myself in the bathroom while my mom pounded on the door. I was able to eventually calm down and tell them to just drop it, but they don't want to and they basically vowed to keep pushing it.
My dad kept saying "I don't understand why you're turning down help from two people who love you and want the best for you" and I finally just screamed that I don't want their help and they finally dropped it...for now.
And now I'm sitting at home by myself and I'm crying again because I'm just frustrated.
I don't know why I am so against getting a second opinion, but I think it's because I don't need it and I know I don't need it. I just had an ultrasound and they found "things" ALL OVER both tubes and ovaries. I tried to explain to them that there is no other way to treat this, but they keep insisting that I NEED a second opinion. I am just so DEAD SET AGAINST another doctor. I'm in so much pain and I'm so sick of this and I just want it DONE. I don't know. Am I being ridiculous? Is it stupid of me to be so against it? Especially since they said they'd pay. I think I mostly just don't want to go to an appointment with my mother because she's nosy and thinks she's a doctor and drives me fucking crazy. She insisted for years that the reason I had bad cramps for years and years was because I had "polycystic ovaries" and I was like...no, I don't. I'd never even been told I had a cyst at this point, and I kept explaining to her that I had no symptoms of PCOS and she just kept telling me that I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about. I just don't want to sit in a doctor's office with her trying to show off for the doctor by using words like "oophorectomy" and talking about the difference between certain drugs. I don't know. I'm just frustrated and I'm in pain today and I don't want to go back to work tomorrow. Fuck.
