Season of Lent
Today is Ash Wednesday and three of us in my household have decided that we are going to fast or give up 2 meals a day out of the 5 small meals a day that are recommended by people like Dr. Oz and others and replace those meals with juice or smoothies. Last year around this time my husband and I were juicing a lot. We bought a juicer after watching the documentary/infomercial Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead which I checked out of the library. It was a documentary of a guy who was able to treat a number of his illnesses by juicing. He didn't really do it to lose weight, which he did, but to cleanse his body and remove all the toxins. He juiced for like 40 days or so. Anyway, my husband lost about 70 pounds doing it and has since gained about 35 to 40 back and my oldest son has also gained a ton of weight.
So for Lent this year we have decided that we are going to fast for 2 meals a day with vegetable and fruit juices. We are trying to cut back on processed foods as much as possible and thought what better time to give up something and sacrifice than during the 40 days of lent. So, this morning for breakfast I am drinking my vegetable juice which I made last night. Wheat grass, cucumbers, celery, carrots, apples, spinach and lemon.
My goal is to document our journey in my journal as a way to hold myself accountable. I weighed in this morning at 152, my husband 370 and my youngest son whom is attempting to gain weight during this period of time at 143 and my oldest son at 294.6. I had gotten down to and maintained about 146 but have put on some weight over the past few months. Our plan is to get the household healthy. Now, that I have confessed all our secrets, LOL. It's time to finish my juice.
Have a blessed day!

Good for you! I admire you for doing this. It does not sound yummy to me (LOL) but hey, do what will work for you and your family. I should do something like that to keep my family healthy. It will take dedication and I know you can do it. I will root for you. Good luck!!
Thanks Donna. It is actually not bad as a juice. I have tried some of the same veggies as a smoothie and yuck couldn\'t do it!
This sounds really good. Good Luck to you and the family, I\'m sure you guys will feel so much better and your energy will pick up.
Thanks Renee! I made fruit juice when I got home last night so that will be my juice to later today after I finish my veggie juice this morning. The great thing about day 1 is that my husband had dinner ready when I got home after my two hour commute yesterday and very body is still happy, LOL.
