Schölly Fiberoptic GmbH has developed a new tool for the efficient repair of turbine blades. With the flexible borescope blending tool, repairs can be carried out on-wing and thus ensure short aircraft downtimes. The borescope-like device with 4-fold bendable tip is guided into the inside of the turbine to the damaged spot. With the interchangeable tool head located at the tip, minor damages on the turbine blades can be repaired. The on-wing repair saves high disassembly costs of the engine.

The business field Visual Inspection of Schölly Fiberoptic GmbH develops solutions for aviation and other industries. In April this year, Schölly, the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce and the Fraunhofer IPK won the first prize in the Innovation Competition of German Aviation (IDL) with a further repair tool, the so-called Cleaning Tool.
