Scenarios

Scenario 1. Two people are walking along in the desert trying to survive. One person has an injury and can't walk very well but puts their best effort into it. The other person is much stronger so they help the first person along out of the kindness of their heart, AND because they notice how hard the 1st person is trying to get along even with their injury.
Scenario 2. The same 2 people are walking in the desert but they are both basically healthy with no injuries. But the 1st person is still not moving along very much even though you know they can move easier and faster if they just put forth more effort. The 2nd person helps them as much as possible but it seems like the more they help the more the 1st person relies on them even more even though they are physically capable of moving along themselves.
Question: How much can the 1st person keep trying to motivate the other to get themselves moving knowing how much they are now "mentally" dependent on them? How much could you sit by and watch them truly let themselves bake in the sun and possibly even truly give up even though YOU know in your heart and soul that they can get up and move, they just choose not to? How much can one person sit by and watch another suffer because of their own true weakness?
