scan results

Hello friends,
I am sorry I didn't post last night,  it is always a long day when you get the scans and go straight to the doctors office. But I am so grateful we find out the same day.
We were so happy to hear "nothing important to note" from the radiology department.  Dr. Amin came in and sat and talked to us for a really long time.  We discussed the pain Steve has been having and he thinks it is from the radiation not the Sutent.  The scan looked so much better from my unskilled eyes, and he said that also.  None of the cloudy  mess as before.  So this was what he wanted to do,  take Steve off for 4 weeks and see if he continued to have the pain.  We would know that it is not the Sutent if Steve continues to have pain.  It is unlikely that the chemo is causing the pain.  If so we will consider changing to something else.  He even offered to take him off anything for a while. We both said no to that because we don't want to risk anything growing.
The most amazing thing happened then.  Dr. Amin said you do know that you are "one in a million don't you" ? Meaning, that so many others have not been able to take Sutent or only take it for a short time.  He said and I quote " I really don't know what to do"  You have been on this drug longer than anyone I know.  You tolerate it well, you seem to take the side effects in stride.  You are just a miracle!!  We both teared up at that point!  He then asked if we were a member of any support groups and Steve answered that I was.  He looked at me and said "then you know what I am saying is true".  I then thought of you, my special friends, who have fought this battle with your own spouces, friends, lovers.  Some who are still fighting and so many who have lost the battle.  I am so humbled and so thankful.  How can I say more?  Steve has a wonderful testimony to give,  he really can't say anything at church without crying or he would be shouting it from the roof tops!
So, we have a time without chemo!  What can we do?  where can we go?  You can bet we will make the most of this break!!
Thank you for your prayers and thank God for his goodness and his grace.
My love to each of you!
Wanda

Dear Wanda, I had tears as I read your journal...I could understand both your relief and the refreshed feeling of hope in your hearts. We suffer with worry and it is greatest leading up to those scans...but, if the results are good...we can breath again...at least for a while. I remember that all so vividly...perhaps, I\'ll never forget as the emotions cut to the core of me.

I hope you and Steve take full advantage of this break and do something wild and wonderful. I am just so happy for you both. I hope Steve continues to be blessed and able to \"live with cancer\" for a very long time to come.

Love you, Linda

Hello Sweet Wanda,

Your journal truly touched my heart. Steve is definitely \"one in a million\". He has been on Sutent so many years, and it continues to hold back this monster. What a blessing for that and his being able to tolerate the side effects so well. How I wish my Ray could take this drug...or any, for that matter.

Enjoy this special time, and treat yourselves to a fabulous trip. You both deserve it!

I, too, pray that Steve will be able to have many more wonderful years. Y\'all are such an inspiration to all of us. Thanks so much for sharing.

I love you,
Ingrid

So pleased to hear your news Wanda. What a man. I can\'t take sutent anymore, it wasn\'t working but the side effects were quite severe. Have a wonderful break. I am truly happy for Steve. (Superman) xxx

Dear Wanda,
I told ya! Good news is so sweet to hear. I am a little confused though, is he on or off the Sutent now? And the radiation pain, is that radiation ongoing? Or in the past? Not too sure about his treatments..........a bit confused, but happy that it is all working together to make your guy that one in a million. I pray for the day when the one in a million living with RCC becomes the exception not the rule. The day when it is survival of 750,000 out of a million AT LEAST!
