Scope
I am suppose to get this scope down my throat to look at my esophagus and stomach, but I don't know that I will. There are possible side effects plus it can hurt. They said that they drug you up enough that you barely know what's going on, but I don't know that I believe that. I am just way too terrified to get this done. The doc wants to do the test to see if there's anything else going on down there other than my Acid Reflux. But I am going to call the doctor to see if he thinks it's completely necessary. With my schizophrenia (hearing voices and having nasty fears), I just don't know that I can handle the test. I have this big fear that something might go terribly wrong; like not being able to breath or choke/gagging on the scope and/or too much pain to be able to handle. I just don't know that it's necessary to do a test that will probably just confirm what I already know; that I have acid reflux. I am just too scared to do the test.

My dear friend...please reconsider this. I know it may not be totally comfortable but it is something you need to do to rule out an ulcer. If you are scared about the procedure...then call and talk to the doctor about your fear and maybe they can give you addition meds to help you get through this. These test are done all the time and my daughter who had the test said it wasnt nearly as bad as she thought it would be. Please reconsider!
I agree mjones. You need to try and do this. I know this is hard for you. It is an easy procedure.
Someone on the GERD site just posted that she has Barretts esophagus and she is very young and has had regular reflux from an eating disorder. I dont want you to regret this decision not to have a scope. You may be fine but years of reflux can lead to much more scary problems.
