saturday to next saturday

Saturday 10 June, I was lucky to get a ride to walmart for stuff---but as soon as i reached the ground door of my apt building, i knew it was my second floor apartment where the smoke smell was coming from; that quick I also remembered i forgot to completely turn the oven off; had 4 chicken burgers in the oven.

LOTS of smoke in hallway outside my apartment, with my fire alarm ringing---then the alarm to fire company across the street started, so I ran there, checking all the locked doors, and got inside when the fire engine was ready to leave the building.

Bunch of fire companies outside the building, though thankfully it was "only" chicken that got burnt.  Then manager, social worker in building, maintence men, most of the tenants, were really nice about it.  The manager even joked of how once a year somebody burns something on the stove; the woman down the hall from me had the burners on her stove removed cause of too many fire scares; I remember one of them.

I've been pretty much hiding myself ever since, with no trip to the nearby grocery store since then, to avoid tenants outside even at 6 in the morning; buy food elsewhere the few times I go outside.

Last Saturday, after using virus-y shared computer down hall, I returned to my apartment to find...a dead mouse!!!  I never imagined, in such a nice building, to find a mouse.  Maybe the burnt chicken smell of a week prior brought it.  Always wonder what your cat is up to---he was staring at the kitchen for days.  The mouse probably died of a heart attack from my cat catching him.

I unplugged my stove; will 4ever be eating various cold food.  And I duct taped around a sink pipe where a mouse could have crawled through.  Hoping today the start of better Saturdays.

I don't think it's fair that you should only have to eat cold food. Accidents happen. Our memories sure do not get better with age.
